If the publisher thinks it will sell for this price, it's on them.

No it's not. They only want $45 which is fair for a big title game with full cinematic CG, voice acting, sound tracks, many maps. Steam wanted 30%. They get $65 - 30% = $45. The price is offset to customers.

So the publisher sets the price to offset fees and taxes to the customer and the customer should just pay it? Even though most other developers aren't having any issue paying their expenses?

The price the publisher set is totally "on them", regardless of why they've inflated the price.

Yes, that expense will go to customers.

If steam wanted 80%, and the game needs to make $16 to maintain developers, they will have to sell it at $80, which is $16 after 80%. They can't sell at $16 and only make $3. Similarly, they cannot sell $42 and only make $29. They need to make $45 for a big title, so steam have forced the price to increase to $65.

It's the same concept on food and transport. When things increased, it's because rental and tax increased. There is no inflation. You've seen millionaires becoming billionaires. The people at higher level is absorbing.

Some companies can offer tax absorb. Meaning they pay that cost themselves. If the term tax absorb exist, it means customer paying for all is that default.

A < B < C pays all.
steam < developers < customer pays all

I think nobody should buy it...

Look at their "Recent News and Announcements."

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1680880

"Pre-puchase today!" right up front in the title.

"Whishlist today!" right up there in the title. (So they can get preferred marketing placement when it releases - A Big Deal ™.)

Whatever... Exercise your right to not give someone money and be sure to not give them any money. I have no issue with any manufacturer setting their own pricing. Not a one... as long as it's ethically done. I don't know that it's a factor behind the pricing schedule for this game (LOL, sure it is, probably... look at the "Collector's" price. WTF?)

But, what's going on behind-the-scenes in the mainstream publisher market has nothing to do with "ethical competition."

Publishers are pushing this notion of the $70 (USD) base-cost for games. And, they're doing it loudly and publicly. Why?

Well, it's because there is no law against them publicly encouraging, calling for, or loudly announcing that their industry should increase prices for games to a new standard rate of $70 (USD). Zero. They are free to scream this barbaric yaulp from the rooftops of the world if they wish.

There are, however, very real, very serious, laws against "Price Fixing" and collusion to drive up prices. But, these require a conspiracy to exist. They do not address public statements, advertising, or PR efforts to encourage price increases... As long as there is no secrecy or collusion here and everything is public, individual companies can demand whatever they want. Loudly. To be sure their peers hear them...

What some publishers are doing is saying "we will show you ours if you show us your's" <wink wink> in the form of "we will raise our prices and everyone will benefit along with us if they also raise their prices."

Expect all the big AAA publishers to rush to follow suit. Indies, smaller devs/titles/IPs will probably still be stuck with cost-competing or serving a niche, since they couldn't possibly control the marketing environment like the Big People can.

I don't think it's a game I'm gonna be playing on launch , maybe I'll keep an eye on it. :cocochan2:

And, as people are saying here, no one will pay $65 for a game, so they'll make $0.

Sure, business is a gamble. Maybe they have to sell a million units and bring in $45 a copy just to break even. Or maybe they should have only developed a product they could sell at a profit within customers' acceptable price points.

Explain to why it has the same price in EGS?. Which takes around 12%?. The price has nothing to do with cuts the store take. They are greedy and want more money.

To be fair, the Steam contract (as I understand it) requires the developer to not sell their product on any other platform at a price less than on Steam.

Still, if they had to bring in $45 a copy (for whatever reason), then they could have sold only on EGS at $55 a copy.

that game doesn't look good so im'a not buying it

:runeshock: ah so I was totally wrong/

Now I'm going to dislike the publisher. I thought they have their difficulties. $65 for a game is too much.

All those greedy developers!
... and scalpers!

That's only for steam keys. They are games on EGS that cheaper than Steam.
