It isn’t locked because it would be censorship.
:)
They would literally have to start filtering and censoring out comments. Which might actually happen, too. But... why even bother having comments at that point? Or upvotes? Just remove everything outside of the view count. Heck, remove even that.
Though: Once they remove everything, there will be 3rd party browser addons serving as overlay, adding likes/dislikes/comments/etc. The same way there are already "loop" addons. Or think of how websites such as reddit or 4chan have addons enhancing these respective websites. Or crypto-type projects have additional layers developed on top of platforms in a decentralized manner. It's not feasibly stoppable unless you go full 1984.
So it all seems kind of... yeah... It's counter-intuitive, but refraining from overt authoritarianism is better for him who wants to maintain at least some degree of control. Because otherwise all control is lost. Which will result in more problems than first existed.
(Of course there will be overt authoritarianism, because those in positions of power are but decadent hedonists. They are allured by this kind of censorship like a chain-smoker is by tobacco. Or an obese sugar addict by cola. Or a moth by the flame, only to ultimately find itself engulfed by it, and burn. It cannot be helped.)
Imagine if there would be diet pepsi for people in positions of power... Or the enforcement of there being multiple video platforms, such that you could fundamentally distance yourself from such types and wouldn't have to share platforms in general.
Maybe if the "dislikes" took away from the "like" number it would have been okay.
For example:
Mcdonalds rereleased their MC-Currywurst here in germany and made a youtube video about it.
You COULD search it with you favourite search engine to find out that it feels like rubber in your mouth and tastes horribly.
OR you could instantly see the public reception by looking at the like / dislike ratio
It is fast, convenient, and you see the opinion of the people, not just the opinion of the press.
That was just an example, but i hope you get the point. (not to buy currywurst at mcdonalds :D)
