cause its just a cultural cartoon thing
Right. Anime and manga is actually very big, encompassing numerous different genres and themes. Unless you just completely and automatically shut out anything animated and Japanese, there's probably something to enjoy no matter what your tastes.
I like to think anime and manga in Japan is similar to what cartoons and comic books in the United States could have been, if the puritans didn't get all "Think of the children!" and lock down those mediums with their religious codes of morality. We might have had a US comic and animation industry tailored towards all kinds of different age groups and interests. Instead those things are still largely considered "for kids", despite the efforts since the 80s to shake free of that appearance.
I mean, you can find American comics and animation tailored to adults, but there's still this stigma attached to it. You can't read a comic book or watch something animated as an adult without being thought of as some kind of man-child or weirdo.
I'm not talking about dissenting opinions. I'm talking about people who enter a thread about anime/manga only to write "anime/manga is bad" or to insult the participants of the discussion. And if asked to elaborate, they usually respond with generalizing and blanket statements like "it's sexualizing children" or stuff like that. None of them offer a compelling argument nor constructive criticism. It doesn't happen with any other topic.
What's the one where a guy turns into a giant blob monster or something? Motorcycles are involved I think. That one was pretty mature and I didn't enjoy it.
Criticism is presented through precise points, not blanket statements. I thought you were bored with this thread? Make up your mind.
In that case, care to elaborate?
That sounds right. Maybe I just haven't found the right one, but I don't think it's for me.
