What breeding / genetics games do you know and love?

I am absolutely in love with Koi Farm, which is a straight-forward "breed koi to get specific colours and patterns" game. I want to find others with the same vibe, whether that's animals or plants. Any suggestions?

Just a heads up: Spore contains none of the four mechanisms of evolution despite being marketed as an "evolution game". You can completely redesign your creatures between stages with absolutely no restrictions.

So if you're looking for a game where you can create whatever you want whenever, sure, go for Spore. But if you're wanting something where you have to work towards incremental changes (as you implied with Koi Pond), Spore likely will not scratch that itch.

Thanks for the heads up - I know Spore. It's absolutely not what I was looking for in regards of the breeding thing, but it's a good reminder that it exists and I should play it again! :-)

The Sims 2 had some pretty interesting genetic mechanics. Way ahead of it's time and if i remember, it's still better than the Sims 3 and Sims 4 when it comes to genetics. Like it could account for recessive genes, phenotypes and stuff like that. A lot going on under the hood.

in a long gray past on bigfishgames I played :

*virtual villagers (you bred them and haircolour etc came from parents)
*plant tycoon
*fish tycoon
(both plant and fish tycoon were about crossing a spieces with 2 properties (a spieces and a variant) to get others to find the 7 combinations neeced to finish the game.
