That's like trying to saw a plank with a hammer.
Don't worry about the hype you hear. It's not even that fun. There's way better Level Designing games out there.
If you're just interested in a cool Level Design Engine, you might like Warcraft 3 World Editor! You do have to buy the game, and it may be a bit dated now, but it's pretty cool fun. There are still online games being hosted, but a lot of people had trouble back in the day trying to host (Networking Port issues).
Lord of the Rings Battle For Middle Earth had a cool Level Edit engine also, called World Builder!
But as for Minecraft, I don't know. The game makers aren't really good people, and I wouldn't give them my money (not that that's the biggest concern).
