Why do some gamers feel like this ?
Some games are single player meant for a nice story , while other games are meant for online play. Out of the line up of the online games , many of them are competitive . Over the course of my gaming journey over the years I've head the term " Try Hard " being used. Firstly i must ask what is a " Try Hard " ?

Are competitive gamers not supposed to try to win in an online game ?

Ex1: Fighting game - I hit the opponent for 67% damage in the corner with " okizeme " , or " meaty pressure into a re-stand .
Opponent over mic " Oh my god dude you're such a beeping TRY HARD drop a combo already "

Ex:2 Online FPS - Snipe 3 people on opposing team back to back . " You're such a try hard you have no life how pathetic you are you're life is horrible "

Generally i may receive hate messages , or get cursed out over a mic. So , my overall question ( which refers to the people who use the term " try hard " ) is why do you get up set at people who " try hard " ?

Some will even join Ranked games then complain about coming across skilled players . I look forward to reading your replies . I want to know your side of it and why you choose to rage , and , or get mad at others with skill .

A try hard is someone that pushes other people to play the game a certain way, usually due to the person being overly competitive. The guy on the mic barking orders or telling people how to play on team chat/type when all most people want to do is play and enjoy the game.

^Don't be this guy and probably why you're getting the label.

It's just a term to denigrate someone in an online game that may be either trying hard to win or encouraging others to do so.

As in most cases of internet insult, it's usually baseless and self-serving, just meant to irritate the recipient.

There seems to be a propensity among a certain crowd to come up with the best one-liner or short "quip" to rule them all... So, they appropriate whatever words they can, even if they have to redefine them, and try out new combinations to see what will stick. "Try-Hard" stuck. /shrug

(The origins of a "try-hard" are outside of gaming, though. It's just been appropriated.)
try hard is one of the terms used by noobs and filthy casuals to ruin your game experience if you unwillingly end up in the same team/game with them.

the term hacker or cheater is often used as well to blame their lack of skill..

now if you refer to jackasses who for example go to a newby area in an MMO.. and kill of all the npc there.. every hour or kill the once a day monster spawn in one hit.. ruining new players experience those are just that : jackasses.. but they are called showoffs not try hards..

one should love try hards.. but showoffs are anoying.

it is just as the difference between a newb (a new inexperienced player who still is learning the game) and a noob (an ignorant player who is unwilling or unable to learn the game) not always clear to people what term is correct to use.

Tryhards are when people play to win; not to have fun. Doing cheap tactics to gain an edge, ect ect.

Basically esport players.
it's pretty much why I kind of put a brake and almost stopped playing any competitive games online.

peoples are always gonna find a reason to complain.

not good enough ? you're a noob.
too good for them ? you're a hacker or a try hard.

I just want to play games to have fun , not to prove my skills to some strangers I'll never ever meet outside of the games.

one should ALWAYS play to win. even if you are an amateur... you play to win!
you just make sure that the competition you are in has the right difficulty level for you..
we not all are willing to be AS focussed to go straight for victory.. or as willing to train as hard to get really good.. or just are a bit more absent minding when we game...
all fun and games.. but it depends on the team..

I like to be in the top 100 of games I take serious.. and if I have a team it has clear rules like..
we do our weekly teamrun on fryday 16:00.. every week... you must be present every week.. if you are not able you must tell so at least 1 week in advance (if you fail to do so.. you will get a strike. 3 strikes and you are out. for every though final judgment is in the hands of the guild leader. (so if you have personal reasons that will be solved soon contact him)
likewise you need to stay in the top 500 of best players in the server.. if you drop below that you will get kicked
you also need to own a gear of top 5% percentale stats..
it is your own responsibility to grind the rest of the week for the consumables you will need... don't rely on others each member has it's minimum inventory listed on our page..
finally it is required to donate at the 1st of each month 100 gold to the guiild treasury (it is allowed to offer goods worth 100 gold.. if they are on the list of things our guild needs.
->
our loottable is weekly updated... loot ranking is based on your past luck in drops.. how well you participate, individual ranking, and how much you donate to the guild.. we will not tolerate anybody trying to get loot they are not allowed.. so you roll only for items of your own class.. and speccific items the guild master can say over.. if they drop they are for x or x and y may only roll for it.

than if you play like that you sometimes have a person applying to join that than shows up totally unprepared.. begging for consumables from the others... who leroy jenkings almost getting the party wiped.. and who keeps trying to roll for loot he is not due.. because "my 2d can use this"
and if you than try to push him in shape such a persons noobish reply is
"well SOME people have real lives too"

kicking out the party such people saves a lot of headaches..

It makes me feel like highschool again.. me with the top grades of the entire school.. fighting to get that 97/100 so my average will get higher than 95/100 and be rounded up to a 100..
instead of the 92/100 I have now that will be rounded to a 90/100
and than you are forced to do a group project with slackers who see in you a chance to have their 45/100 failing rates pulled up with a 80/100 that they did not deserve but you only got because you had to do alone the work for 3 man.. for actually you got a 100/100 but the teacher punished you asa team with 20 deduction points for 2 people not participating..
slackers are the worst.

Nothing wrong with being super passionate and serious about a game. Many games are MEANT to be played competitively. Of course, not all of them, though. In my head, "try hard" is used for those overly competitive players in the more casual sided games.

Though when you have a real team, everyone is usually expected to do well, pull their own weight and be a contributing member. What you described is perfectly fine, because it's a real team who has expectations for each player, instead of just a group of friends messing around. If I were in that situation, I'd have kicked that person too.

I usually don't play games where an active team is required, however. I play with randoms most of the time, and play with my friends for a short while when they get on every once in a blue moon. I try to stick to games that aren't going to require me to communicate much or pop off every match (probably what you'd refer to as casual games). I can see the fun in those types of games, however I'm not very big on the competitive scene, which is why I described tryhard the way I did, as that's what it means to me in the casual games I like to play. :winter2019happygingerbread:

Man, sorry for saying this, but what you are describing there... to me, that's like total tryhard-ness. Kicking people for falling slightly below expectations and such. That doesn't sound fun, nowhere near it. But hey, as long as these people know what they are getting into with when playing you and your friends, I guess it's still fair.

I don't bark orders. Also in one to one fighting game lol it was silent before he got hit with that 67% restand .

Really ? The orgins of it didn't come from gaming ? That's shocking ... Thanks for that . Yea i always find it funny when they yell out " try hard " . Some label may even label you a cheater because their losing . They also assume i'm a smurf because i came up with a good strategy .
Sergio eredeti hozzászólása:
In my case, because I like to play quietly, and always when "powerful" players like this appear, it means that something is wrong. Either they are smurfs or cheaters... or on rare occasions, the matchmaking system has not been accurate (either due to lack of players or ping... idk) and it is not pleasant. Games are for fun and to disconnect from the real world, not for that.

I play CSGO, TF2, Overwatch, etc... and when players like that show up, I get out of the game. You can judge me and tell me whatever you want, but as I said, I play to have fun, not to be constantly dying because "there's a pro" on the other team.

PS: Please note that I don't play ranked gamemodes, only Casual and other non-competitive game modes. I know those game modes are for playing to try your best and win, and since I don't play that seriously I don't play them.
we all play for fun. If you play casual mode i understand thats perfectly fine , and its nothing wrong with that at all. I wonder why some of them curse good players out though. Many good players who come up with a strategy get labeled as a cheater just because the causal never considered the possibility of said outcome.

Ex: Doing a combo off of an uppercut in MK, or stopping Jacqui briggs pressure set up by interrupting her , wave dashing, or doing high damage combos. " he's cheating " lmfao i just lab.
