do developers/publisher get money when you buy a game key from resellers like GMG and Fanatical?
I was under the impression that there's not much difference from the publisher or the dev's perspective whether you buy a game from Steam or official key reseller. But I've read that some people claim that they will buy the key off resellers just so that the devs don't get any money.

Is there any validity in such a belief? If the resellers themselves didn't get the keys from the publisher, where do those keys come from?

Yes, they get paid. But Valve doesn't get their standard 30% cut.

If the key is bought from an unofficial grey market site, however, then there is a chance that the developer won't receive any money. There have been cases of keys on those being obtained with stolen credit cards and other fraudulent means, which are later subject to chargebacks.
yeah that I know, with sites like the censored G two A being an infamous one.
But guess my impression about the legit resellers remain correct.
Thanks.

Most sites still do the 70/30 split but zero goes to Valve. GMG is one that publicizes the cut. https://greenmangaming.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/215465328-Want-to-sell-or-publish-your-game-with-Green-Man-Gaming-
