Facebook has lost $500 billion since rebranding to Meta
It’s been about five months since Facebook rebranded its parent company into Meta and it has hardly been smooth sailing. Companies like Apple and Google have started to include privacy changes that are really cramping Meta’s business model of tracking as much of your personal data as possible to sell things back to you. Earlier this month the company had already dropped 30% of its stock market share value, and things are only looking worse for Meta.

Apple and Google’s privacy measures that allow users to block Meta’s trackers are clearly crippling the company’s revenue, but these trackers were also already responsible for many users turning their back on the platform. Constantly bothered by random or creepily accurate advertising has put many off, but there are even more reasons for the popularity decline. Among younger demographics who prefer other platforms like TikTok, Facebook and other Meta platforms are barely able to get a word in. It’s often seen more as the place that one out of touch relative gets all their misinformation, rather than a cool social media hangout.

According to New York Mag, Meta has lost $500B since the name change, though blaming the new name probably isn’t completely fair. It’s the other changes that came with the name, as Zuckerberg appears to be steering the company in a new and somewhat weird direction. The name change to Meta also signified the company’s new direction with a strong focus on metaverse and immersive internet, but it’s not a huge surprise that most people don’t appear to be buying it.

We’ve seen the eerie presentations of not right looking digital worlds and worrying capitalist mentality towards these VR landscapes, and most of us are left shaking our heads. Gamers especially can’t understand why all these worlds look so bad compared to modern games and some pretty high profile game makers can’t even see the point. It’s a move that’s left many very unsure about Meta’s future, and the results are pretty clear.

Will meta/facebook survive in the long run? I hope not

Yeah, I'm sure that's the main reason... :spazdunno:

Pretty much confirms what I've know about PC Gamer for years now.
People which try hard to act smart are mostly not smart at all

Pretty much just comes down to whether the words & concepts that people are using are actually being used in such a way that is in accordance with their meanings.

For anyone who doesn't understand the words or subject matter, it becomes impossible to tell the pseudo-intellectual apart from the person whom is actually knowledgeable.

So, imo, it has little to do with how someone appears to "act" although, that can be an indicator that someone might just be puffing their feathers but it isn't inherently the case.

Indeed! Then Twitch, Twitter, Reddit, Discord, etc. should be next.

I have never used it, except some of my relatives showing me their profiles in Facebook.

That being said, it's value drop is connected with the negativity building on Ruble&Yuan. I won't delve into it because "you can guess why".

Then Steam, epic games and everything proprietary else is left.
Everything which isn't proprietary, drm filled spyware should be gone.

Just imagin a world without spying, drm and locked down source coded apps and services.
What a paradise

*shrugs*

I guess I'd have cared fifteen or so years ago but at this point it doesn't matter. Users won't move back to the real world. They'll just migrate more of their life to Twitter and discord and discourse and distance and disspace and disbook and disjournal and distopia and disdissy and dissisia and Marco Polo and de Soto and Magellan and Snapchat and tiktok and birdbook and facetank and splunk and LinkedIn and Google Plus and YouTube Plus and alexabook and Craigslist plus and zoom and plus plus and

And a world without Islam. Pure bliss

i think transition is mostly going into brain analog to digitial interface so i think it would not matter of any or whatever is going to have minimal info transition, we dont need ui probably in there, and most companies will need to adapt same as dot com bubble where people thought it was all about making an internet portal page like yahoo, i think that will more stransition to that and crreepy part is mostly from other than marketing, i think most creepy is efforts to mind control users through trackers than marketing, no one actually used ads accurately in those trackers, its more about user manipulation similar to 1984 style stuff where you turned off devices eves drop on your political views, that kind of thing is nothing to do wither either marketing or even probably nothing to do with company business, perhaps some 3rd actors use framework that is setyup by them. it seems almost anyone has access to this user meta data if they can afford it or smth, most eiula i asume already got a clause that user info is worthless and is not "kept intact",

the creepy part is way of technology progress itself, its not really going in the direction that is benefitial to all, ie its still some incontrol system where your life is mostly unaffceted and you basically turn into another device like as if they found that "matrix is a call to action, which is what the fastest path of tech progress is it seems. its not going to be any sci-fi movie, its just going to be "hey we got this thing and its great and uhh, your life now depends on it. idk if we will able to actually enjoy any progress if we get one of those devices that controls our thoughts and feeling, we might just devolve into some mideval 3rd world global slave economy, it coincides with nice green tech etc, and will probably save earth from pollution so most likely ts the scenario going forward.
