Base Games vs Deluxe Edition vs Ultimate Edition
I don't know how many people are mostly buying base games, not the Deluxe ( DLC ) or Ultimate Version?

Which one would you choose to buy games?

For most games, I prefer to play the original game the way it was intended, and then move onto another game. I already have more games than I have time to play as much as I might like to. But there are some games which I’ll buy the extra stuff for. I only buy it if I expect to get the value from it.

There’s so much to weigh in on with extras. Sometimes it’s something that improves the game as a whole, other times it’s only cosmetic, still other times it’s something that makes the game too easy for my tastes.

If I feel there’s too much dlc, or something in the dlc should’ve been in the base game, I’ll often just spend my money on a different game instead, unless it’s a must have game for me, because it gets to a point where it’s like: the money and development effort could go towards a sequel that’s a better game overall.

It’s a pretty human thing to want to just keep collecting money through minimal effort, or just reusing what’s already been built. I don’t blame devs for doing that. But I also want to keep seeing innovation.

So it really depends on the game and how I feel about it.

Edit: When I do buy dlc, it’s often the case that I’m interested in most or all of it. So the more there is, the more likely I’m going to wait for a sale, and if I feel I need the dlc to enjoy the base game, then that’d be a time I just buy a different game.

I wait for a sale, or wait till the other editions are cheaper through time, or both.

Depends on what the game and the DLC or whatever the extra price paid adds, and the difference paid.

If the difference is too much for what I think the extras are worth, and if I am not interested in the extras in the first place, then I just get the base game. Otherwise, I do not mind paying for the DLCs or whatever you call the added content.

One of the few exceptions was oblivion.

Base with dlc later deluxe version are becoming expensive now instead of just $60 and the same issue with ultimate editions now

depend on the price and if it's a game I have a feeling I'm gonna play for long enough to actually make use of the dlc content.

usually I only get the ultimate edition when it's on a big sale otherwise it's just too much for a single purchase.

Red alert 2 was a drastically better game without the yuri's revenge dlc. They gutted the soviet side of much of its cool stuff to give to yuri.

usually I bought standard edition, rarely I bought the highest edition ( base game + all DLCs ) either because of the price tag is way too expensive or the content is not that worth it.

Depends on the price, amount of content and quality of content.

If we're talking about fighting games then owning all characters is a main priority, although paying 85 euros upfront for what is only part 1 out of who knows how many season passes is way too much. Looking at you GGS and KOF15.


Yakuza LAD had 3 versions and base game is only one I'd say is worth the price, extra content is almost scam worthy due to how useless it is and how much it costs.

Ridiculous prices, $60 base game + $20 for deluxe + more $$$ for the ton of dlc season pass and such, hell nah get outta here.
I usually wait a year or two and get GOTY for few bucks.
