Agree if you're truly being sarcastic.
Unfortunately sooner then we think.... or want.... if one claims to be sane.
Things like this incident just help it creep into the masses psyche subconsciously under the guise of "entertainment".... if Hollywood doesn't self destruct first.
Well this year is only the second lowest viewer count since last year's lowest... and what viewers?
Jerry Springer viewers?
WWE viewers?
MTV's Jackass viewers?
Wow... that's setting the bar high for getting more viewers to watch who gets punched next...
Hate to tell you... more then not "Hollywood" is bashing Will for that stunt... he might keep his Oscar but he's probably never getting another one... and in two weeks nobody will remember it, him, or alopecia... and rightly so.
That would have been way funnier.
He's a comedian and they are known to pick at people and roast them as a joke. He's intentions were just to make people laugh and entertain people and even Will was laughing at him. I do think Will had a right to stand up for his wife but he shouldn't have slapped Chris.
Of course, this would have made Mr. Smith even more angry and possibly he would have tried other moves. All in all, his fame would have been torn apart, along with his pants, before he could get off that stage.
oscars have been losing viewership steadily for the past decade
just let it die already
Also, if Will Smith was in the habit of slapping everyone who said something he didn't like, he'd be in jail by now. This was obviously something that had built up over the past few years. I suspect that everyone involved knew that Chris Rock had it coming, and that's why it played out exactly as it did?
Also it's common sense - nobody should be assaulted. A slap, punch, even a split of saliva is consider an assault.
If the jokes are bad, then the speaker did a bad job. If you can't perform at work, your colleague or boss does not have the right to slap you.
Imagine it is not Will smith but a nobody. Or a random. For example the camera man joked about a staff member and the staff slapped the camera man.
Everyone's reaction will be 'hey can you 2 get off from here? we're running an awards ceremony. They might be sued as well. Compensation for making a negative scene on the stage for glory.
Don't let a celebrity's popularity blind you. They are the same as everyone, just having a job to do. They have no power or privilege. That slap is undeserved, is wrong in every reason, but I think everything is staged.

"We are not the cool club any more"
Love Jim. I love have he immediately shuts down the host when she says that "it escalated*.
Apples and oranges. You provided a clip of a very young Will Smith making a bald joke to someone who was having a good time. Chris Rock was mocking Jada Smith about her alopecia, and he has been doing it for years (or so I read yesterday).
Among their crowd of Hollywood elites, there's no chance he didn't know about her condition, and I'd be willing to bet both of The Smiths have had words with him about it before.
I know a guy with alopecia, and it was pretty hard for him to deal with. He wasn't a world famous actor with a multi-million dollar career on the line either. Why would anyone think tormenting a sick woman was funny?
I did hear the backstory, and I think if Will had just done a roast of Chris Rock right then and there and did a "right-back-at-ya" kind of thing, it would have been just as effective, without resorting to violence.
The Oscars is nothing but a bunch of already famous people jerkin each other off anyway and clapping for each other. Meh.
People shouldn't be a victim if it's something as superficial as looks, and they shouldn't feel forced to change their appearance just to avoid being made fun of. Look at Chantelle Whitney Brown-Young....yes, I had to look her up, as I had forgotten her name, but there's a condition that can't really be fixed with money at all.
Agreed.
Sometimes hair transplants don't work, and then you're just left with a bunch of scars on your head, which can be even worse.
Also, didn't Robert de Niro say "f*** Trump" a few years back at the Oscars, but everyone gets their panties in a bunch when people say "Let's go Brandon"? Seriously...people should just...live their own lives.
^ I'll leave it at this. I agree.
