Why is the default steam profile pic a question mark?

Out of all the things in the world, why do you think Valve chose that one? On purpose? Because if somebody has it you can tell it's a new player? To tilt players in games like csgo?

I'm guessing it just makes for a good placeholder for when you haven't chosen a profile picture yet.

Because you haven't chosen your own profile picture yet. Therefore Steam doesn't know what you would like to be displayed, so a question mark is shown to indicate Steam's lack of knowledge in this respect.

They had to put something as a placeholder... what better then a "?" to show it's a mystery.

So what default image would you have chosen?
The question mark is fine and if someone doesn't like it they can upload their own image.
However, there isn't a way to "clear" the profile pic and reset it back to question mark other than uploading your own question mark image. I think thats a problem that they should fix.

Something like a silhouette of a person? That's the most normal thing to put and not a freaking question mark lmao
