What’s up with these “rep for rep” or “comment for comment” spam comments on big Steam groups?
I notice a majority of them are from Russian accounts who play CSGO. It’s almost never from anywhere else or a person who doesn’t play CSGO. Is this just something losers with no friends do to get clout or is it something else, like beefing up their profiles so they can sell them?

In a way yes because Valve have announced unique systems to combat cheater. One of them is "trust factor" where it will put player's game hours and other hidden criterial into consideration. Less trusted players are never grouped with trusted players in the game. Hence cheaters might feel that a profile with many +rep can build trust. They more they ask for those, they more they revealed that they are fishy.

A profile with many +rep +likes = potentially a scammer or cheater.
A profile with complaints or drama = legit. :erune:

It's so they seem more "trustworthy". Though, rep does nothing.
That explains so much. I think it’s time for me to initiate some shenanigans with these people

Rep For Rep

Say anything on my profile and ill do the same.

Award my profile and ill do the same.

(No kidding, i actually will)

I think it's cool tbh, then u just whip out your profile and see a bunch of people commenting. Makes you feel special lol. then deep inside you know you actually had to get it one way or another.

I thought like the +rep thingy is used in old cs go betting or dota trading site.

It's a secret sign that scammers use to find others of their kind.

Secret? It's so overt, it's covert?

They have to look for reps so that they don't get stuck in a scam loop against other scamtards.

i have people that keep posting -rep on my profile.
i let them know it's pointless, but they never give up.

I figure, let them have their fun.

Imaginary internet points for internet people.
Scammers and bad actors helping other scammers and bad actors.

Not gonna get into it but there are two specific copypasta comments you will see repeated over and over in those profiles, I generally just block those I see have them, some may even be legit people but I don´t care.

Some thing done to give bad traders a sense of trustworthiness I guess
