i used to go to main menu in the past but it feels too much of a bother lately. i just alt + f4 after making sure i properly saved the game.

Yes, for games that can't be quit any other way, and also sometimes for games I just want to quit quickly.

Sometimes when the game freezes or I get soft locked. To be honest I've done that a lot in XCOM... Stupid bastards can't hit a damn 98% with a shotgun!

There have been a couple of console ports, mainly from the Vita, where the developer simply neglected to include a "quit" option in the menu. A silly oversight that leaves me no choice but to alt-f4 out of it.

like the game has crash , doesn't respond or it's one of the few game that actually ask you if you want to quit when you alt f4.

Having grown up without autosaves, I basically don't expect autosaves anywhere unless the game says it does this.

Ironically, at least once, autosaves left me unable to try a different story route.

You have to alt F4 in Dark Souls games if you don't want some hackers to ♥♥♥♥ your saves or softban you.
