However, in an infinite universe, any event, no matter how improbable, is guaranteed to exist.
Unfortunately, we do not live in an infinite universe.
"Both are equally terrifying.”
Arthur C. Clarke
No wonder aliens avoid us.
Just not in the way you are thinking though.
- Are all-powerful (they can create lasting matter from nothing)
- Are "outside of time" (they transcend local spacetime; "fluctuations before the big bang")
- Are omnipresent (the entire "quantum vacuum" is filled with them)
- Are impliedly idealistic (creation coincides observers and reason; everything else is highly improbable in line with probabilistic quantum physics, as surely the timeless system can "fluctuate" into existence in any "quantum state," making conscious starts pretty much a guarantee. else it wouldn't be timelessly, meaning non-causally, random. that, and there is the consciousness vs fine-tuning problem.)
- Are thus creationist (the universe usually pops in at some date such as 6000 BC)
- Are omniscient (Entanglement? Observing a wave "fluctuates" into existence a particle.)
Of course this doesn't explain what exactly "maintains" these "fluctuations" or "field excitations" unless you believe them personal and non-probabilistic (Then representing a kind of "reason of the gaps." Every field instrument needs a player and constructor, right? And there's still the universal instrument's fine-tuning problem). But... if you believe this, then it's entirely plausible that it all started on this planet. And that no aliens exist. Granted how they still might.Though even if you actually believe for quantum physics to represent a kind of "ignorance of the gaps," then you have to consider that the quantum-generator continued "rolling" a die until a planet with one conscious observer existed. Which could have been earth. In which case surely the universe is void of conscious beings except for us. Because there is no other planet capable of hosting life. Because the die rolled nothing but invalid universe/planet configurations until earth was created. (Either way, if the observable universe had even one planet's orbit altered, there'd be no life on earth.)
Of course you can take this a step further: The human body (being a kind of mini or quantum universe) contains 12000 times as many atom-galaxies as there are star-galaxies in the observable universe. Granted how it is assumed that we can observe at most 5% of the universe, but still... it means that even amongst "humans", there could have been die rolls until an actual human (atom configuration) capable of conscious reason was created. If you view humans themselves as miniature universes (commanding dark matter, dark energy, etc) in certain star-type atom configurations.
Which essentially means that most people might not be conscious. Because they are invalid mini universes the same way most planets are barren. They are failed die rolls... victims of malfluctuation. (And some starts might arguably have a conscious being spawn on a lone asteroid only to suffocate immediately.)
Well. That is if you believe in "quantum fluctuations," at least.
...
Uh, and aliens? Yeah. If there are this many failed "ignorance of the gaps" type of quantum die rolls until a conscious observer is fluctuated into existence, then there could be all sorts of "things" out there. Like fully occupied robot unicorn planets, magical space whales, or a teapot in orbit of Mars. Even if they aren't conscious, since they are mere fluctuation residue. Weird to think about to be honest. (Else, if the gaps aren't ignorant, there might be no teapot in orbit of Mars, unless the omnipotent fluctuation agent wanted to a place an easter egg. Of course non-ignorant gaps aren't considered scientific these days. Which is why we will just have to accept the solipsistic teapot as sound reason... I mean sound ignorance.)
That is my understanding of modern physics.

Ellie Arroway: You know, there are four hundred billion stars out there, just in our galaxy alone. If only one out of a million of those had planets, and just of out of a million of those had life, and just one out of a million of those had intelligent life; there would be literally millions of civilizations out there.
Palmer Joss: [looking the night sky] Well, if there wasn't, it'll be an awful waste of space.
Ellie Arroway: [looking him] Amen.

Quote from the movie Contact.
I can now not stop imagining God being the codename of a starship and that Satan was the guy who tried to pull a mutiny and they crashed on earth..
In a very odd way it sorta makes sense, if there's a planet Hell and a planet Heaven and both are aliens we cant see due to whatever means of tech or I guess abilities I guess logically I can see them battling on earth.
Its like the Jedi VS the Sith except instead of lasers their shooting beams of holy/unholy stuff.
Top 10 film/book in my list.
