Yeah he did that, to answer your question. His most recent videos, the ones he made about coming back, are actually fine, but they still need some polishing, while at least they are better then his other recent ones. I believe if he comes back, doesn’t act like a complete dumbass, and makes a series of enjoyable videos, while at the same time staying out of politics and YouTube drama, I’d subscribe.
Essentially, I think he wanted to do what everyone else was doing, but he ultimately failed. Other channels (like reactor, which was interesting) trolling him did not help.
Yeah, while his simple style of drawing did not make him unique, it was still cool nonetheless.

Agreed, his older videos (from the start to around 2-3 years ago) were fantastic.
Figuratively, in YouTube terms, yes, but in real life, he did suffer from depression, but that’s about as close as he was to dead so far (from what we know).
