How to take off a GP-5 gas mask filter?

I heard GP5 gas mask filters contain asbestos. I do not want to risk it, because I am only using it for cosplay purposes. I have no idea how to remove it, could someone help by saying Step after Step instructions or linking a website showing how to..?

It's a 40 mm screw in filter. You unscrew it. If you want to replace it, just purchase a NATO 40 mm filter.

I attempted to unscrew it, but it wont take off.. Its either very hardly sealed or it takes off in a different way

Don't know what to tell you. Gp5 I bought for my mr. Foster cosplay 5 years ago screws in and out. Same goes for that black one. If the filter that was put in place wasn't an exact match it may have been forced on. which probably means it isn't an original filter and doesn't have asbestos.

I can neither confirm nor deny that this particular gas mask may have had something similar originally.
