Nothing like the first two
The modern setting is there but you can skip it
Try Black Flag before the newest ones, with that game they changed the gameplay with the naval combat and the main character is the most charismatic in the entire series. Nice story, setting, everything.
Unity and Syndicate were a bit lame and a step back imo, I only recommend playing those if you're a fan of the series
The newest one, Odyssey, is awesome. It's like Black Flag+Witcher 3+Tomb Raider, I'm only 10 hours in but I already know it'll be my favourite
Thought the exact same thing about AC3 the first and second time i played it. Infact i hated it that much when it first came out i stopped playing AC altogether for many years.
I loved Altaïr and Ezio as characters, loved the locations and was totally into the story bar Desmonds bit (wasnt a fan of the animus theme).
I have heard that some call Black Flag one of the very best in the series and my nephew used to play it nonstop. It looked like you’re playing as a random Abstergo employee in first person mode in the modern setting and I liked that you could ignore this character since the main focus should be on the historical ancestor anyway.
I mean, lmao, Desmond just sucked as a character. I understand that in the real world not everyone is a charismatic man of the people, but a main character should be well liked and rooted for. It took 5 games to start and end Desmond’s story and they took the worst way to end it completely.
I and many others were thinking “So his dad shows up out of nowhere and was always a POS dad and has a chance to step up and offer himself as a sacrafice and he ends up stepping aside and says goodbye son”. Like wtf ? Where were the writers on that one ? Doing mushrooms while listening to Pink Floyd ?
It looks good that at least none of the ones after 3 are as bad as it was it seems. I’ve heard awful things about Arno and Unity and I’ll have to see. Interesting that Rogue was created as a final AC game for last gen console owners cause they couldn’t play Unity and Rogue ended up far more well liked. Many have told me that it makes Templars, like the kind Haytham represented, as being well written and not as evil seeming.
If you have a game you might as well play it i say. At the very least once completed at least you can say youve learnt enough to carryout a review what with so many games in that franchise.
Aaaah All those Norwegian little islands to explore
Some AC games don't have tall buildings like Black Flag and Rogue. Odyssey so far (11 hours) the only tall "building" was the zeus statue.
Nice
That’s awesome to hear about the story of Unity. One cool thing I noted about Syndicate was that Jack The Ripper is in it.
Many people have wanted a Japanese setting, but Ubisoft has maintained that they don’t want to go that route. I’d like to see a setting in China since wasn’t the Chinese assassin tomb we saw in AC 2 based around one of the most important assassins that was one of the first to organize the assassin order ? I know there was Chronicles: China, but I’d like to see a full fledged one.
Considering that most martial arts fighting forms were created by Monks during that time, I think a unique fighting system would be great. It’d be cool if those monks that created Kung Fu fighting forms were really all assassins
I want to know if we have the Adam and eve back story, are we going to get AC Paleolithic as i quite fancy a hitman meets far cry primal adventure. Just think not needing speech as who understands different grunts, we can all learn to communicate via cave drawings.
I liked the story of all the games, even AC3
The step back that I referred to was the gameplay and setting. After a expansive game like Black Flag (and even AC3 with 2 huge cities and 1 huge open area) it was strange to go back to 1 city.
London is bigger than Paris on Syndicate but I still felt it wasn't big enough after playing Black Flag and other open world games
Jack ripper, the mythical gods of origin, etc, etc basically followed off the back of the good reception the da vinci storyline received from fans back in the early days. Syndicate actually has quite a few historical characters although once again very brief and play low key to the main story.
China being more the fitting setting for an AC game is something i would have liked however i do see ubisofts point as the series since the origin comeback has been going backwards.
They continued the story arc with a graphic novel.
