But IRC is better at text chat.
For text chat, it's customizations that are severely lacking, and anonymity is more difficult to achieve, compared to IRC.
On IRC, you can literally use any IRC client program (many of which are free/open-source, and have a huge variety more customizations) to chat, because IRC is an open standard. On Discord, you have to use the Discord app (which is basically a browser) or the Discord site in a browser.
(Heck, one reason Discord's light mode sucks is because the text isn't even really black text, but just some sort of grey. If it were actual black text, it'd look a lot more readable.)
Furthermore, unless you run multiple browsers/sessions/machines for Discord, you only have one account to which all your server memberships are attached. On IRC, all your connections to different networks are separate.
Also reminds me of TeamSpeak, it always annoyed the s--t out of me when fleet leaders would beg to subsidize their server. It was like "Dude, you made this server a requirement for participation, that leaves the burden on you."
I have heard something about it being spyware, but I dunno if that's true or not so I wont go over it.
Better than TS and Ventrilo.
Everyone also uses Google products.
Not good for privacy, so screw that jazz.
I get to talk to everyone I know all summer.
Privacy speaking? If noone knows you use it and you aren't on any groups than you should be good.
