We finally "officially" have made a successful Human-Animal hybrid. Thoughts?

So well, I didn't expected DNA modification tools get this advanced this early in the century. So What do you guys think? Planet of Apes or some funky new lethal diseases might come around and bite us in the ass later on? Or a more optimistic point of view?

I think it was a reference to an anime where an Alchemist creates human chimeras by fusing a human with an animal. First he uses his wife, then later he uses his own daughter.

As for the topic... IMO, experimentation such as this is necessary if "we" as a collective species wish to fast track evolution and modify ourselves beyond the bounds of natural limitations. Creating enhanced humans to be smarter, faster, stronger, more durable, etc. If you've taken a few Biology course, you'll see just how scary the human body is and the untapped potential it has.

There is a lot of good that can come from this, just as there is a lot of evil that can come from it. IMO, it's akin to Atomic research; it led to weapons capable of eradicating all known life but it also led to one of the cleanest, safest, and most efficient form of energy. (Nuclear power plants. Seriously, research them.)

In regards to "Rights" of "Human animal hybrids"... IMO, it depends on their intelligence capable and expected life span. If they are as intelligent as a human but only have a lifespan of ~20 years and mature as quickly as a dog or cat, then I'd say they should be classified and treated as a pet such as dogs/cats. But if their lifespan is ~40+ then they should have the rights akin to a human.

I want to be optimistic: let's hope that something really bad happens to those retarded fools.

I have always disliked Resident Evil games because I thought they were incredibly cheesy and cheap like a straight to video awful and stupid movie but now I start to think that in fact some scientists are far worse and more stupid than the worst z-movie ever made.

I thought that scientist should have been ashamed enough after the creation of covid but seems like I was wrong: let's keep doing idiotic stuff!!

I have always thought that nature is bad and humanity is good and I still think that nature is bad and evil but obviously there is something really wrong in humanity too, or at least in part of it.
After all it makes sense: nature made us just like everything else.

Anyway I want to be positive, I really really hope that something really bad happens to those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Time will tell, I hope we haven't found a "Black Swan event" due this stuff.

I doubt human-animal hybrids will look anything like miqo'te, viera and other such humanoids with animal ears and tails. It is more likely to be something atrocious with a short lifespan.
Bingo, all those artistic depictions to "soften" and "humanize" those kind of characters has existed for quite a while in some entertainment sectors AFAIK. However when faced with the "real deal", things can't be that "romanticized" in such hyperbole manner, due the fact it's carries consequences bet it on short term or long term.

Imho of course.

Agreed, i'm hoping this is under heavy control (and very strict ethics & moral regulations are in place) if need be nuke the crap out of the lab and burn the research (in case the "experiment" gets out of control or something goes horribly wrong).

The article says the benefit of research is creating much needed organs. I think making new life and using life to trade organs for another life is never the solution. It is murder with extra steps.

However, if it's about creating the best human life (human and human DNA) so that our future generations can live longer, look better, become wiser, that I support. At it's mastery stage humanity could gain immortality. Each baby can be looked after by the government and becoming a high ranked army officer.

Since we have our funky new disease allready and this won´t lead to some manbearpig this one at least is overrated. It´s just a few cells in a petry dish.

The birth of a good or bad idea has to start from somewhere. Human nature and all that this probably won't end well in some cases/places.
They made embryos, they're not going to let them be born.

Calm down people.

Did you forget your towel?

Don't forget the after effects and new diseases, and ethical & moral dillemas among a myriad of new issues. Do they count as normal citizens? Do they count as animals? Do they have right to vote? etc.
If they are like humans, then they should be treated as such.

That's another contention point for ethics, is it not?

Indeed, the thing is they aren't 100% human neither a 100% animal. They're an hybrid it's a 1st of it's kind atleast as far the public & myself knows it, who knows if this type of tech was made decades before or not.

i mean it won't be the 1st time govt backed research investigated about "funky" stuff. The USA did the Tuskegee project & Russia the sleep experiment, the WW2 germany did their stuff and WW2 Japan also did their "homework".

Edit: My point being, all the details might not be disclosed to the public. Neither ongoing research or past "failed" experiments or future experiments besides "growing human organs for future transplants".
