What was the worst game console you owned?
Mine was personally the Nintendo switch. I just didn't like it but it isn't bad. It's just not my thing. Controller are to small and I'm not a fan of hand helds. I'm more of a PlayStation guy myself due to some exclusive games.

N64, but only because Nintendo told all the devs they had to use the 3D graphics, and ONLY the 3D graphics, which put an inorganic end to the great 2D RPGs that the SNES was known for.

The system was more than capable of making a FF6-style or Terranigma-style game, but Nintendo said, no. No more of this.

At least it was capable of doing 3d well (for the time). Both Sony and Sega had similar policies (at least in the US and Europe), and while it worked alright for Sony, the Saturn was built for 2d and was the worst of the three at 3d (at least using the programming techniques of the time), so it didn't get to show off its true capabilities.

Wii for sure. Spec-wise versus the comepition

Nintendo consoles have never really been known for their high specs.

Except maybe back in the 80s and early 90s, when "playing with power" was their motto.

NES - had best graphics and sound on a console at release time (outmatched by Sega Master System mind)

SNES - best graphics and sound in "16-bit" era (although some crazy Sega Mega Drive/Genesis fans want to argue that)

N64 - best graphics in "3D" era (limited by cartridge format and hard development though)

NGC - better graphics than PS2, cheapest system

Old Nintendo was much more competitive, hardware-wise.
n00by, agreed, except about the SNES sound. Streets of Rage 2 soundtrack could not have been made with the SNES soundchip, as it had no FM synthesis. Also, despite more colors and higher resolution, nobody I know wanted to play EA's NHL games on that over the Genesis. Genesis was simply faster. It did excel in RPGs, though, by a long shot.

Also, that being said about the FM sound on the Genesis -- the FF6 soundtrack could never have been done on the Genesis, so it balances out.

Agreed that Nintendo hasn't always been behind the times like people currently think, but although the NES was probably better overall (especially when sound is put into consideration), the 7800 was better in several ways. Also I know it doesn't really count but the AES was actually the most powerful system of the 16-bit era (not counting the 32x).
What is AES?

Neo Geo made a console for rich people that was basically a miniaturized arcade machine.
Ah, yes, I remember seeing that in the magazines, knowing I would never own one.

It had a faster CPU but they could put custom chips inside the SNES carts which could outperform that CPU, e.g. the Super FX chip.

SNES' games were pricier though.

Right, but the pricing of the system and games made it viable only for rich kids.
Too bad Nintendo never figured out how to add a FM sound chip to a cartridge.

That Yamaha chipset on the Genesis is amazing even today. It can make music that sounds like legit studio beats.
