That did not happen if I just brought a Origin license. I did buy Metro 2033 and on Origin and it only uses Steam no Origin to play. That was a first (and last) for sure.
Some words have multiple meanings. Cancer is also a constellation, and people have used it to refer to negative influances for a long time.
Odd to see a mod supporting the competition. And saying something bad about Steam. I applaud your honesty. You are 100% correct but no one will listen and change their minds. Unfortunately.
From your comments about how news sites were reporting this, I assume you got the information from this site:
https://gamerant.com/origin-user-agreement-ea-user-privacy/
Why did you omit their analysis on exactly how Steam's clause is less intrusive than EA's?
Or maybe you got it from a different site. There were a lot of gaming sites reporting on this back in 2011. Including RPS.
Regardless, EA might have changed the TOS, but I've seen nothing where they mentioned changing the functionality of the client. They can still view everything on your system if they wanted to.
Are you claiming that Valve can also view everything on their customer's PCs?
Because I don't bother with news sites reporting as it's usually a lot of FUD and half-assed opinions with the intention of getting some easy clicks. I do my analysis based on what the document says. Not from what a news-site article writer thinks they say.
The Steam hardware survey contains a list of all the installed software in your computer. I'm pretty sure if someone found Origin to do that back in the day would flip the hell over it.
Steam had to revert years ago a change in VAC where they looked at the user's DNS cache for traces of some known cheat DRM in order to catch cheaters.
Other than moderating the forums I'm just as much of a user and customer as anyone else here. I get to use the same Steam client everyone else uses, with the good and the bad parts. And I own and play games on Origin, Uplay and other gaming services.
^This type of attitude is why The West is doomed, "i get what i want, so who cares about the other stuff." And yet people are absolutely shocked when Facebook sells your data and their algorithm is designed to sow divisiveness, Instagram and TikTok are bad for the mental health of teenage girls, the government abuses it's authorities and surveillance powers, etc, etc, on, and on.
Nobody's perfect
But steam hasn't done half the shady things that EA have done...
Except, unlike Fecesbook, Steam is not being run by shady ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Your older = better attitude makes you look like an old man reminicing about the "good ol' day". There was as much trash then as there's now.
Honestly if that is the worst that Steam have done then they are saints compared to EA.
