If that doesn't scare you what should scare you is if Taiwan was taken by China. Taiwan is a tech hub HQ and I think China knows this, it's one of the reasons they want it back, the other is "reunification" of China.

I'm speculating on the tech hub HQ but there is plenty of solid reason for doing just that. Not just the political ideology about re-unification.

Gaining control of ASUS, ASUSTOR, Gigabyte, would give China significant power over their owned patents and resources, I have no doubt China would leverage this in anyway they can, be it installing firmware level malware among other things. China probably also wants control of TSMC as this would allow them to get around the US hardware component stop sell orders.

Gaining control of QNAP and Synology would give China significant amounts of data on the entire world, from small businesses to medium, and potentially larger. QNAP makes everything from NASs to network-switches to server based NAS solutions which may be used by video production companies and the alike.
