My youtube video got copyright claimed, any tips?

I tried to use 'Highway to Hell' by AC/DC for about a minute at the beginning of a youtube video (with credit if that matters), and it was copyright claimed instantly. I thought I could use whatever song I want as long as I don't earn money. The video is blocked completely in all countries.

I know that Sony Media Entertainment owns the rights to this song and I was going to ask permission, but can't find any contact information. I have considered uploading any claimed videos to a porn site in an attempt to possibly escape copyright restrictions, but disallow earning money from these videos as I am afraid I will be sued.

What should I do, any advice?

Fair use is a thing, but I don't know if your video qualifies (haven't seen it and don't know much about fair use) and don't know if it's worth the headache since it won't stop companies from claiming your videos and betting you won't fight back. Copyright free music seems like a safer option.

Music is a form of art, just like let's say paintings. You should be able to decide what you want to do with something you make.

Besides music claims are temporary, after some time it's free for everyone to use it.

While I agree to a point, the music industry to my understanding likes to go overboard with it.

Unlike AC/DC, Fred Durst is a musical master and should be treated as such!

I will not stand idly by and watch Limp Bizkit's good name be sullied by even being mentioned within the same vicinity as the common refuse referred to as AC/DC.

Hmmm... how would you guys react if I started a band named "Limp/DC" or "AC/Bizkit"? Though since I can't sing any songs would probably be classified as crimes against humanity...

Going by album sales alone freds one album only got 9x platinum while AC/DC back in black went 12x platinum. Meaning AC/DC out sold them in album sales so that tells me they are the better band. More people bought AC/DC albums then they did fred durst's albums.

Doesn't work if the copyright laws are constantly changed by lobbyists to make copyright last longer and longer.

Still, as long as people don't claim ownership of your work, is it really that bad if someone uses a song of yours as part of a video they made, just as part of something bigger? Hell, even an animated music video.

And hell, what if your piece of art becomes a meme? Will you start trying to take down every instance of it being used?

Just because something is more popular doesn't automatically mean it's better, or even good.

lol putting a credit in a description does not void copyright infringements, really annoys me when I see videos with that in description.

also if you want to use it you will have to purchase a license, you can usually license parts of songs for cheaper than the entire song, you won't be able to use it for free just by asking Sony.

What was the context of this exactly? Did you try to use it as just an intro? Cause something like that requires more than just crediting the source. It requires a pretty lengthy and expensive sequence of requesting permission from the copyright holder. In this case, that's Sony Media Entertainment (one of "The Big Three" who dictates music copyright on Youtube, the other two being WMG and UMC)

Frankly, I disagree with current copyright law. It's currently too unwieldy and unsuitable for the current entertainment landscape of independent creators. I've seen some great content from youtubers that use copyrighted music in creative ways, but they're branded as "illegal" because copyright law hasn't been updated to more properly reflect today's world.
