Words with Friends Scam

Found two people trying to pull the exact same scam playing Words with Friends on my cell phone. They challenge me at a game then get me to add them on Google Hangouts. One of them started out with a picture of a fake boobed woman, then the conversation went like this:

them: I downloaded a lot of stuff yesterday so I'm short of data so I don't know if you can help me out get some steam card from the Walmart or online so I can reload my connection.

me: I already had a scammer ask me the same thing

them: Hey
them: Don't call me a scammer
them: Don't like that
them: Can you get it for me

me: You can't get away with this forever
me: Eventually you'll go to jail
me: Where did you get this scam from?
me: Now you're quiet?

them: Can't believe you are calling me a scammer just because i ask you for a gift card

me: Why couldn't you believe that?
me: You've already been reported and are being investigated

them: F**k you

me: Ok

Apparently, scammers are making thousands of dollars doing this with the Steam gift cards. Sad that people fall for it but they need to crack down on it.

The trick is they will download more dirty pictures to send you, so they need the Steam gift card to free up more data. But you can't even do that with a Steam card, I am guessing they will try and sell the gift card number to somebody. Scammers will dream up all kinds of stories or excuses. Bottom line is they are trying to deceive the person into thinking they are getting something but simply taking their money.

Steam knows about this and they are calling it a scam.

I suppose it's open to interpretation, but federal law defines fraud as any false statement or representation in application for benefits. The person had no intention of sending more dirty pictures. People have been pulling the same scam or "service" hundreds of times. I'm not an attorney but pretty sure they would say you can't do that.

Imagine being this absolutely pathetic in life that you need to try and scam gift cards though Words with Friends

Feels good to work hard for a living and be able to buy whatever you want whenever you want.

Scamming those people is extremely dirty, microsoft support scams are also more popular and they aim at those demographics specificaly, they will ask them to buy gifcards and to give the codes, that's why shops staff have to ask why ppl are trying to buy a lot of giftcards now.

I enjoy scam-baiting.

What you do when they ask for gift cards as payment is pretend to get them.

I have a honeypot server with virtual machine setup to allow them to remote access and view my fake desktop. So I could bring up the Google Play Store, Steam Activation, or other websites to actually accepts a fake gift card and display the gift money activation, being transferred and used, while they can do nothing but watch. I don't suggest anyone to do that, unless they know what they are doing. Never allow access to your real PC, IP Address, and/or Personal details.

However, you have some fake gift cards. Delaying going out of your way to fake get them. Then you tell them you finally have them. Have read and followed the instructions carefully on them. Activating them on your own account. So nice and kind of you to go out of your way for them.

A scammer is so greedy and demanding, they will consider that $500 or whatever was for them and you just cheated them out of it. Yell, scream, call you dumb and every name in the book. Having a mental breakdown and almost a heart attack, raging away for ages! Flip it back on them.

Works every time and is so funny how they act so entitled.

Wasting their time is a pretty cool thing to do because it means they will scam less peoples and hopefully question their actions. Well i wish they weren't far gone because even thinking of doing it show they don't care to begin with.
