"Complete edition" games
Isn't it weird how for so long game publishers were pushing the narrative that DLCs were actually extra content and not cut from the game?

Now they call the version of their game with all the DLCs the "complete edition"? So... that means that the game is incomplete without the DLCs, doesn't it?

Collector's edition makes more sense when you have a complete collection.

What do you mean? A collector edition is usually something with trinkets for collectors

Collecting games. The series is collected.

In some games, the Standard Editions do not even cover 40% of the Complete Edition.

Did not know Nioh 2 was coming to PC before seeing this thread, now I'm excited.

As for whole "complete edition" thing, it depends on the game. Horizon Zero Dawn for instance, the DLC is without a doubt extra content, it is way too large to just be cut content.

Always has been. DLC = cutcontent. or content that didnt made it before the deadline, soo... Never buy a game new. Wait a year or two.

Only exceptions are the old school expansions. They usually release 1 or 2 years after the original. Changing the game for good. Diablo II: LoD is a good example.

Some games take time to develop DLCs. You're just paying for the product beforehand. If you don't like it then buy the standard version.

But those complete editions are redefining what a standard version even is.
A standard game used to be a full game.
Now apparently standard is incomplete

Yes and people are unhappy about it.

Example :

Player Reviews :
Basically the original game and a bunch of DLC for it. Nothing transfers between versions, there is no discount for existing owners, and there are actually less achievements for this than the original version. (950+ people find it helpful)

In the same sense that any game that gets a patch ever is unfinished prior to that point. Which is to say: so what?

The same thing can be complete and incomplete at different points in time; that's pretty straightforward. Like, if my rainwater storage system is full, and then I add another tank, suddenly my storage is only half-full until more rain comes along. That doesn't mean there was anything wrong with the first tank, it's just the nature of relative terms that their meaning in absolute terms changes over time.

None of this implies that DLC is content "cut from the game", either.

Not really. Like FH4 I bought hte ultimate edition when it came out just so i could play it a few days earlier (which is the real scam). I got a complete game. The DLCs were additional. And I didn't like the lego one. I loved the first one though.

But this game doesn't pretend that those editions are "complete editions"

I'm more annoyed by the fact that they still keep the original version in the store (Guacamelee and binding of isaac also do this)

GOG used to have "complete packages" of games. Not even it, anymore. Besides, Steam has more items inside a game's package, nowadays (for example, Shovel's Knight Soundtracks).
You're looking for things to complain about.
It obviously just means you're getting all bonus content. Anything else you want to over-analyse and whinge about is your problem.
