"Dark age" of Sonic turned out to be my favorite period.


I couldn't care less about Genesis games or games that came out after Black Knight, they don't have the charm that 00s games had.



Never cared about Mario because I don't own a Nintendo console.

Mario because he is more in-depth. You have full control at normal speed and have a lot of obstacles to clear. Your mistakes are punished but your skills and endurance tested.

Sonic is a mario copycat. Most of the time you're just running straight and enjoying the fast scrolls. During boss fight you became mario that jumps slowly. With that, mario wins as he have different costumes and fighting styles.

As a kid I preferred Sonic, because I thought he was cooler.

As an adult I prefer Mario, because I've realised the Mario games are better.

Mario games are boring doe. Sure like 30% of sonic games suck but each one has their own core. I haven't played many mario games, only Super Mario 64 on DS and New Super Mario Bros on DS and Mario & Luigi in Bowser's Inside Story & Partners In Time. Don't get me wrong mario games can be fun but Sonic games feel better to me because in Sonic games there are so many ways to clear a stage so many possibilities (Sonic Unleashed). You can take some other route you've never seen before when you've played the stage already. In the platform games I've played, pretty much all of it is the same. Just do this and that and you win, avoid the enemies, find some secrets there and then. But the difference is, Sonic's gameplay is fast whilst Mario's isn't. Power vs Speed. In platforming I would say Speed is a much better game mechanic to put in it cause it gives the player some sort of rash. Which is why I really love the RPG Mario games. Cause Speed doesn't really matter in an RPG (Sonic Chronicles where Sonic is slow cause of the RPG element which is one of the reason the game was critiqued badly, still love it doe). The only bad sonic games I can think of that are like major titles are: Sonic 06, Sonic Forces and maybe Sonic's Lost World.

Generations isn't really that good either, it's just fine. It's way easier than Unleashed, and I'd take Werehog over Classic Sonic any day.


Unleashed also had a fun story with Pixar quality CGI cutscenes, but what kind of story did Generations have? Nothing at all.

I have no particular interest in the series. The character itself is an egotistical ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, whose only redeeming quality is being able to run fast.

But you do almost the same with Mario.
Mario 64 DS is garbage because it completely destroy one of the most satisfying thing in that game: the controls.
Controls are bad even if you try to play it with an analog stick because they have been destroyed on purpose to make it playable with only a D-Pad (the original DS only had a D-Pad), so they still suck even if you play it with a better system like the 3DS, the problems are still there because they have ruined the cotrols on purpose (not putting an analog stick on the original DS was one of the most stupid thing Nintendo could do)
It just feels bad and wrong playing the game in that version. Everything becomes absolutely frustrating while in the original version even just moving around was fun and exciting.

New Super Mario Bros is just a recreation of older Mario games style and not even in the best way possible, Super Mario Bros 3 is still much better than New Super Mario Bros expecially the first one. NSMB2 and NSMBU are better but they absolutely are not really representative of the quality of Mario games.
You should try the original version of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy 1 to be able to judge Mario games in a more objective way.

Sonic games are strictly bad at best since the dreamcast games. Only the ones that did generic stuff were somewhat good. Aka Shadow the Hedgehog for instance and Unleashed was ok.
