Is it dumb to fall asleep on the balcony under a thunderstorm?
I want to do this atleast once in life and its currently raining, I feel so at peace.

The chances of being struck by lightning are really really low, do it

Depends on the balcony/if the house has a lightning rod but

Probably not dangerous but it honestly sounds next to impossible to fall asleep while getting rained on.

Chance of lightning strike is negligible. There would be bigger risk of pneumonia or mildew on the clothes.

You are supposed to observe humans from the balcony and catalog their behaviour, not sleep there.

is it dumb: it's your life
is it a suboptimal decision that increases your slim chances of being struck by lightning: yes, as people who are enclosed inside buildings do not usually get struck by lightning

Why would he be rained on? A balcony can be covered from above by the next story (apartments) or roof and if they've got glass panels installed the rain won't get in from the side either.
Depends on the balcony and if it's covered etc.

Well, in that case would wonder what the difference is between sleeping on the balcony vs just opening the window, or why anyone would be concerned with safety.

Update: its gotten too strong and the cover from the apartments above is not sufficient anymore, it's one of the strongest thunderstorms I've seen so I guess I won't be sleeping this night on the balcony.

Let's put on our actuary hats and work out the approximate probability of being struck, while being inside an apartment/house, or being on a balcony, or being on a particular floor, or being in a particular climate, or being in a location with certain building regulations; taking into account what the building is made of, what the person is made of, the height of the balcony, the existence of other balconies... [post continues for several pages]
