Playing as Different Gender & Romance
Hello;

I'm a male and I have played many RPGs as a female character but never felt comfortable when romancing with a male. Actually, I don't even recall female-male relation in any of my playthroughs, unless its forced/mandatory.

Is it weird to feel that way? How do you guys feel about it?

(please change sex types according to your preference)

I'm not the character I play in a video game. I am me and they are them so I don't really care.

I don't fantasize myself as a main character, so I always pick who I think would fit MC the best if I have to.

I have a Female character in Red Dead Online because I like diversity with my Online characters in games. (To clarify I'm a male) I don't see the problem with it, well...

The only problem I do find is others who do have an opposite sex character of themselves in a game, are always such a smartass and disturbing at times. Such as playing in World of Warcraft. If you know what I mean.

Nothing weird about it. It is rather normal than anything else. I can't even play as female characters, because I can't relate.

Nah, it's not weird. Some people immerse themselves in fantasy more completely than others and there's nothing weird about that.

It's no different from feeling squeamish when you have to choose the lesser of two evils in a game, or feeling happy when you defeat the bad guy and save the world. Some people don't, and just look at it like they're choosing how the story goes. Or some people do because they've immersed themselves in the fantasy in that way.

I'm a male and I play male characters exclusively in my games. I also avoid 'romance' in my games whenever I can, but where it can't be avoided I opt for a male + female relationships if/whenever possible.

That's just me and how I'm wired.

Other people are (of course) free to play their own games differently.

Female here and into women; I know how you feel. Playing a female character and having a male romance doesn't really feel right to me. I always choose to play female characters unless I have no choice. (Persona, Witcher, Gothic, etc...)

I don't mind playing as a male if I have to, but it has to be a pre-made character.

For example Rune Factory 4 doesn't have a same-sex option, so I have to pick a "husband", which is fine by itself but it isn't nearly as satisfying as knowing that you can choose a "wife" in Rune Factory 5.

I prefer to play cute characters if possible but I can usually deal with most MCs. There are some games I can't play though because I just hate the MC so much. I can't play Witcher 3 cause I hate the MC. I didn't like FF13 either because of the MC. I can only just barely tolerate Adam Jensen. I really dislike him though, but not quite enough to turn me off the whole game.

Weird? Nah. I guess you just don't feel the love when it comes to guys and that's ok. And even if it was weird, I don't feel like it matters. You play however you want. I'm generally not romancing guys in games either, maybe except that one time I played a gay character in Fallout New Vegas (I just felt like it). I was also a cannibal. I feel like that's way, way weirder,

I don't grasp concept of attraction quite well, so I just do these for the sake of expanding side-stories a bit.

Once I did, yes. It's a role playing game, why not play something different from what I am? It's more fun for me that way.

And you have no gay tendencies, secrets or whatsoever in real life? Please say something, if I overstep my boundaries here.It is a interesting subject and I recently read a article about expressing gay behavior on a virtual level, when you are not able or even allowed to do this in real life. Just like Second Life, you know. Doesn't mean someone has to be gay. Could also be BI or just a coincidence. Or like you said, just a role play. But it could have a deeper meaning.
