Be aware of scammers!
My son was attacked by a scammer called niknikiiiii will message you stating that you have been reported for asking for money something illegal, then they will redirect you to Solo#4615 aka Jared Christen with VALVe - he will tell you that you have an hour to respond to him. In order to resolve this issue they want you to pay $200 in crypto on either bitcoin or paybis.com due to your account being a high value account. Don't fall for it! My son was threatened that if he didn't pay that amount his account would be banned for life along with his ip address. When I asked for his supervisors name he gave some fake name John Macdonald, yeah ok. Then when I asked for a direct phone number to call - he refused to give it to me. When I asked him to call my personal cellphone - he stated that they are not allowed to call anywhere but on discord. So, I called and come to find out it was all a lie. Picture that he sent me was some white guy named Jared stating that he was based in Bellevue Washington - when I asked him when his certifications states he is in Washington state but discord said I was calling Hong Kong - he gave some BS answer about service in different regions and that was the region he was working on. He was an outright douche. Saying that I should cooperate with him and stop wasting his time. Some customer service skills. Whatever! it was all a lie. So I exited the chat and reached out to steam support. Now we are working on recovering my son's account. I just want everyone to have a positive experience and hope one day these scammers rot in hell.

P.S. My son is a high functioning autistic - when all this was going on his anxiety through the M & F roof. Inexcusable.

That's a common scamming template. Scammers can't come up with anything original and sorry but they have zero empathy towards others except their own greed.

Report their accounts on Steam and Discord as impersonation.

If you have sent payment or they have given you a gateway to send funds, you might also wish to report them with....

Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)
https://www.ic3.gov

Caution: IC3 works with the FBI and CIA for real crimes, but will need a lot of details to track them down and actually arrest them. I would suggest only doing that if you have made a payment to Bitcoin or similar.

All the best for your son.

This happened to me earlier today and I shut it down when I got a steam text code to change credentials. What can I do to get these guys busted?? I have the steam and discord accounts of the 2 of them. There is no report option on the steam profile though.

Cockroaches, where is the bugspray. Just contact valve directly about the name and watch the account get banned instantly. Scammers try to "friend me" if I don't know you, you will receive an immediate add to block list.

Steam will not "ban" your account, they can't unless some serious infractions occur.

The report on Steam is under the More drop down on their profile, select Impersonation and provide the information in regards to the scam. Steam mods can see the chat history from within Steam.

As for the third party Discord, they won't see that and you should report separately the account(s) on their too. Locate the message you want to report, tap the top of the message and hold down, then from the popup menu select Report.

If you can't report the message of Discord on your device, then get the user's full ID. Right-click and go to their profile, you should see their username followed by a # and number. Copy it all.

Go to:
https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360000029731

Select help with "Trust & Safety" and the type as "Report abuse or harassment". Provide them the details there with the Discord full ID of the abuser.

Another reason why Steam should raise age limit to 21+, and it should require some forms of ID or something. Disturbing facts I've seen enough is that kids underage playing online mature/adult games. I mean, I can understand that many parents out there wanting their kids to have fun, to be more "mature" by engaging mature stuff in early age, but that doesn't work well when they have bad parenting skill.

I mean, I've seen countless kids on GTA 5 online. G T A 5, can you believe that?! Like that game is all about drugs, crimes, hookers, strippers, racing cars, etc. Stuff that most kids would think that it's ok, fun to do them in real life, because their little brain wouldn't have a strong moral compass.

I'm sorry to derail your thread, to make something that doesn't really relate to your case, but I felt the need to bring up this, because of course, scammers do like stupid kids.

I'm aware of scammers. I get a kick out of annoying them and playing dumb but never giving them anything they want.

Haven't seen any come around for a while now. Maybe they have connections and tell the other scammers I'm not worth the time.

I think Steam should up their game a bit for kids - or at least make a kid friendly version of its product that requires adult permission or a pin when messaged by someone that is not on their friends list and vice versa. Kids are not stupid - they just inexperienced in these type of situations. This should be talked about more with kids in schools, home, and elsewhere.

Game violence doesn't affect a child's development at all.

I played Postal 2 and Manhunt as a young kid. Yet one of the most passive people in real life, avoiding all fights if possible. If anything it gave me more moral and ethical values for life.

However, if you really believe that, then you should keep your kids away from watching the cartoons, news and reading books as well. Keep them away from socializing with other people. Then stop their entire imagination. It might give them ideas. Just lock them up in a room wrapped in bubble wrap. Oops, they still went nuts.

Parenting... A bunch of clueless old people who can't even remember the time they were a kid themselves and need something else to scapegoat for the blame rather than taking it upon themselves.

Another reason why guns should be banned from America... video games don't kill people, lag does. Yet guns cause massive amounts of deaths, mostly ending up in the hands of children who just assume it's a toy to play with, like if it was a harmless game. Should of been busy playing video games instead?

As for scammers, they feed off greed and attempt to rush a person into taking actions before they have had a chance to think it over. So you can even bait their stupidity and make them the blind one. You just need to teach others, specially the elderly and children, some people can't be trusted. Even your leader and president could be corrupted by narcissism and greedy.

Learn the signs:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob5NENZdkj8

If you know what to look out for in a scam attempt, you are much less likely to fall for it. For Steam, that's mostly just avoiding going out to third party websites. If they claim to be a admin/mod of Steam, yet want you to go to Discord or they work off another platform rather than Steam. Then that's questionable and should be avoided or baited and then reported. If a child gets anything like that, have them come to you as a parent to confirm it or take over the actions. The child doesn't even need to worry or deal with it themselves, unless they understand it, won't give away any personal details and want to have some fun trolling and mocking the silly scammers. Some kids are really good when it comes to IT. A scammer will likely have lower IQ than a child. If they had an education and intelligence, you would think they would get a real job rather than just leeching off others. They can't even be creative and come up with original scams, they just repeat the same old ones over for years on end. How sad is that?

If other people didn't purchase the virtual items, against outside the scope of the Steam trading window, using third party websites and payment gateways. Then there wouldn't even be any profit in scamming on this platform. Stop feeding it. Idiots actually purchase pixels, virtual goods, assuming that it has value. Oh look at my virtual gun, it looks so pretty. A crow going around collecting shiny pieces of scrap metal from the ground has more profit than you.

I did some looking and the only countries that require you be at least 21 for "adult content" are the countries that don't allow "adult content" period, regardless of age.

I've seen some kids more mature than 21+ year olds.

Legal age here in New Zealand is 16 years old. In America it would be 18 years old, etc. Reality is a person maturity isn't defined by an age. You could also be mature in a certain area, but not another.

The rational part of a teen's brain isn't fully developed and won't be until age 25 or later. Adults think with the prefrontal cortex while teens process information with the amygdala. That is the emotional part. Teens however can still link impulsive thinking with facts, to prevent jumping into problems. They just need to know the correct facts.

Scammers tend to target the elderly the most. Why? Because they don't have a full understanding of technology and IT, compared to others. They are also more trusting, nice and caring. If you make them believe it's a mistake they did, they want to correct it. Making them an easier target to trick.

If you are taught to know what to look out for or have a good understanding how things like IT work, you aren't as easy to trick. The best way is consider if they are trying to rush you into things or lead you somewhere else. A clear sign of a scammer. Don't be afraid to ask questions from others and cross-check. A real support person wouldn't be pressuring or rushing you like that.

Steam support/employees will NEVER contact you outside of Steam, heck they will never even ask you to add anybody or use Steam chat.

It's good that you were able to stop it before any real damage was done
