Ultimate editions now at $100 thoughts?
So a lot of game ultimate editions in the past used to be $50-70 bucks but now it seems it has changed to $100 and almost $200 for example the games that I have noticed this is Battlefield 2042 ultimate edition at $112.99, Dying light 2 ultimate edition at $100, Dying light platinum edition $100 , and Stalker 2 Ultimate edition $109.99 I think this is dumb in my opinion and in the future we might see ultimate editions the same price as collectors editions but what are your thoughts?

It depends how much or what type of content it has. In tekken 7, they have an ultimate edition version but only contained the first 2 seasons as oppose to providing all of the seasons dlc. And it didn't provide frame data dlc, an important tool that all fighting games have.

It's safe to assume that most ultimate editions are just cash grabs.

Are you sure you are talking about ultimate? And not just speciall edition?
I can remember i bought starcraft 2 for 120€ with all the extra physicall stuff.
As of opinion, they have always been that expensive 100=150€ price tag

Or you could follow what i usually do: only buy games on sale

Games are $60. DLC costs extra. It's normal. Research about DLCs before buying them. Some DLCs are NOT cut content, they are worth it, gives hours of quality content. Witcher 3 DLCs for example. Or DLCs of Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The FATE OF ATLANTIS DLC gives 20 hours of extra content. They are good DLCs and worth their price.

It's kind of debatable to be honest. Because in the long term you can save money by buying ultimate editions. Unless your the type of person who only buys in sales that is.

If we talking digital only, well the base game is $60, DLC will be $20 each on release and the developer will likely release about 4x DLC. Plus on top of that you get special in-game items for buying such packages that are not available elsewhere.

In retail ultimate editions, you get physical items as well, e.g a model, book, stickers etc which makes these more worth the money than the digital counter part.

Some people will surely buy ultimate editions for the items themselves.

It's very rare for myself to buy a ultimate edition unless I... 1) get rare items (multiplayer game only).... 2) get physical items such as a model, book and other nice items.. or 3) save money in the long term

Used to be collectors editions that would sell for that much, but they would often come with limited time figurines, books, maps and even cases.

It's called inflation.

It's normal i guess. In the past companies takes less money for development. Now days requires more money for develop. And obviously the price are higher

Example the money ps5 development used are way higher. Only selling console doesn't do much profit so they need online payment too. Like ps plus

Prices of the games by companies are well designed and well calculated
If the game price is way higher then usual that's means they spent a lot money on developing

100$ isn't anything these days

Whether or not a product sells and how well it sells is down to discretionary income and peoples use of credit if we for the purpose of discussion ignore a products quality.

rip offs

I wait until everything gets discounted during Steam's regular sales, so even if I wanted one of those expensive super-duper game editions (which I typically don't), I'd pick it up for half price (or less) eventually.

Im with HALO on this one to say $100 is nothing these days, this is from our own perspective tho. We are not looking at this from someone else's perspective who might see $100 as a lot of money... the poor, low earners or kids at school.

I've never purchased an "Ultimate Edition", as they are almost exclusively multi-player titles.

I have purchased "Collector's Editions" of single-player games before, and still have a few of the interesting collectibles in my possession.

I still actually use my Fallout 3 lunch box to store bottle caps (though I've switched to cans in the past couple years).

games cost like 60 bucks for the last 4 decades.
inflation adjusted games should be much more expensive than they are right now.
development costs for AAA titels are expensive, yet games still cost the same.
if you see a ultimate edition as a complete game you have your true retail price. which should be like 100-150 bucks.
