David Hayter.

I have nothing against the guy, I just can't stand his gravel gargling voice.

Nolan North in SWTOR, he sounds like he's talking through his nose. It's a shame though because Nolan is a good voice actor and was given a really bad role in SWTOR.

Can't stand Troy Baker since the early 2000's. Doesn't help that he's everywhere and always plays himself. Get real.

Jules de Jongh (Triss in the first Witcher game and Cora in Mass Effect Andromeda). Flat, boring, uninteresting voice w/ zero inflection. It's a mystery to me how she continues to get voice work.

Ethan and Hila in Payday 2. Their appearance in the game started as a literal April Fools joke and should have stayed that way.
Devsman Jul 11, 2021 @ 7:55am
Steve Blum, sorta. He's great at monsters, but he also tends to land total edgelords, and then he annoys me.

I think its just skyrim's writing. His voice sounds fine. But almost all the lines are like condesending, mocking, joking, etc.

Sure, the writing could definitely be better but this VA's enunciation has a pronounced lisshp beyond the obvious "foreign" inflections. Even if something written is trash it doesn't excuse VA's from delivering wooden, flimsy lines to at least convey some feeling.

Why don't devs hold VA open mic contests & then draw from the best fan-made voice talent for games? That way game overhead production $$ is less and the voice acting is done by folks who actually care about how the lines sound?

Of course, that would make too much sense and the paltry paid $ to fan VAs would be considered absurd.

because fans don't have extensive voice training to do different things that is expected off them or to read from a script the first few times without making mistakes or have differing tones and inflections to really bring out the characters emotional frame of mind.

it takes a lot of effort to get it right, not to mention breaking in the voice and that requires a few sore throats to get a not so loud voice to become a lot more louder and more clearer and be able to change accents and inflections at a moments notice without coughing or feeling like you are starting to get a sore throat.

so this means they need training. It's just easier and faster to get an established name.

n0pe, I disagree.

I said the devs could cull the cream from the crop and not just take fanboy tweens getting lit from their 15 minutes of virtual fame.

Consider Jeremy Soule. He didn't start out as some classically trained musician. He is a gamer musician that applied himself. Now look at him & his brother. Some of the best music not merely in games.

What about fan mods? Some are better than the actual games. I bet many of them never went to any modding school or took uni coding classes.
