3. Respawning/reloading doesn’t make things any better or worse in ^
2. So if you're a beginner then Dying Light is a nice one to try. It's not too scary but it has it's moments. It's more of a hack and slash game mixed with parkour. State of Decay is also similar. The earlier and later Resident Evil games have a scarier feel to them (RE 5-7 were a bit more of a shooter than scary). Bioshock has elements of horror (highly recommend this series but 1 & 2 are horror themed) and Doom (first remake, not the later ones).
3. Some games restart at a checkpoint which means you'll need todo it all over again. I actually don't find horror games scary but I've been playing too many of them.
EDIT: Other tamed horror based games are Limbo/Inside and Little Nightmares. There's no (or very little) jump scares but both are excellent casual games in the genre.
first : hardcore horror game ( you cant fight back , no weapons , pure terror )
second : soft horror game ( you can fight back , weapons upgrade , soft terror )
third : enjoyable horror game ( you can fight back , many varieties of game play on entertainment purpose , soft terror )
hardcore : outlast , P.T , FNAF
soft : dead space , resident evil 7 .alien isolation
Enjoyable : dead rising , dead by daylight , dying light , resident evil 8 ,
Obviously there are many out there , i just list few examples

But if you scare very easily then maybe leave horror and checkout some other genre instead.
Either you like horror or you don't.
Nothing wrong with preferring Driving Miss Daisy over Friday the 13th.
And it has nothing to do with gender, age, etc.
You do you.
only horror game you need to play
Nothing phases the eight year G/Son he brains sees films/games all as make believe so he can't pretend. Dying Light scared the poo out of me and he is like whatever its all fake.
2. Cry of fear (free), FEAR, Doom series when you're not confident to play games without a gun and Resident EVIL 8 if you like mild horror. Also I would count Layers of Fear as mild horror as well. (recommended)
Outlast, Dying Light, Amnesia if you like to take it a step further
Visage, Soma and Alien Isolation if you're a hard boiled egg.
3. The fact that you can die and respawn in these games isn't the scary part. The scary part is that you don't know what to expect and everything can suddenly pop up into your field of view anytime.
Its obviously not recommendable, unless you're some type of masochist that likes to torture yourself with something terrible, but you probably like nice things.

3. I think that depends on the game. In case of Resident Evil, that game gives you limited saves.
Amnesia and Eternal Darkness, use psychological horror and sound to keep you on edge.
And Alien Isolation, uses a unpredictable threat that can chase you almost anywhere as a another means.
