Origin of your nicks and a story behind them? My story also.
Origin of your nicks and a story behind them? My story also.
I ran an online BBS from 1987-1988. Anyway, I took it offline 33 years ago and my nick back then was "Bugz Bunny". I was pretty well known in the exploit/phreaking scene and you could see my nick in many cracktros. Knew a few of the guys from Paradigm, Eaglesoft Inc, etc, etc. Bugs was my fave cartoon character, so I modified his name a bit, and voila, my nick. Silly, eh?

Then around 1996 I changed my name to Delphinus Minor, which is Latin for "little dolphin", since I am a navy certified SCUBA diver. As time went on I shortened it to "Delphinus" and now I just use Del. My real name is actually Jason.

I have been on Steam nearly 17 years and never really introduced myself, or told my story because when steam first went online it was primarily just used as a place to collate your games. Most of us were still buying optical media and many of my fave titles I had to buy again, which I don't mind. Those devs deserve that.

I plan to write a book sometime about my underground "career" and will be including the time my group and I got busted after we created a shell account at a well known bank and stole a penny from 50,000 accounts and deposited them into the shell account(Group was called TFF, or The Fantastic Four. Lame, isn't it? We were teens and it was 1986.)

So, we got caught and we never got charged. The reason no charged were laid is because my parents, our parents, and us teens agreed to never mention which bank we violated. The reason? This bank definitely did not want their clients/customers to know some punks accessed their accounts, got by their security and stole from them.

I then got very heavily involved in exploiting mainframes via datapac numbers, and placing servU daemons on university servers remotely, or "pubstros", so that 0 day and 0 second FXP groups could fill them up with all kind of goodness. That is well behind me now as well. I'm now just some has been that lives in the past but really enjoys sharing and I really hope people enjoy reading my stories.

Was it wrong? Depends on what you think of banks and whatnot, but legally, yes, very wrong, but in my opinion not immoral. But that was a different time, and that kid is long gone, but he dwells inside of me.

So that is my story. I never really started to get into Steam forums until recently. Most of my posts are older game related posts and pretty vanilla. I have some serious health issues now and want to talk about all of this to strangers.

Thank you for reading this wall of text.

I am glad someone shares the same values I do, I usually snip the contents of the quote to avoid permanency and to avoid immortalising something someone says. I also don't like being quoted in case I change my mind about what I wish to display.

I always own my words. Maybe once every five years on the web I'll delete something I posted. Tonight I deleted the subject of this thread(reposted again obviously) which was the first deletion I made in years. My logic is that if you are going to post something, anything, think about it first because the internet is forever. People are going to quote you. Sometimes it's hard to keep track of conversations and the minutia in the thread so quoting is helpful. I get what you mean though. Just think about what you are going to post and you should be fine long term.
i've had this username since some halloween a few years back. i changed my username many times back then but for some reason kept this

Truly that must've been a very inspirational moment for you. For me, I just vaguely remember hitting my head hard somewhere, thats about it.

Brings whole new meaning to the phrase, "You are what you eat."

So do you only eat fajitas & Slim Jims now or have you just never eaten another meal that was as good as that one since? :steammocking:

A joke about lemons , I don't remember it and it's would probably don't make sense out of it's context even If I did remember it.

All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players.
I've worn many masks over the years. Been online since the late 90s, early 2000s. When one alias loses it's worth I discard it and don a new one. Probably in part because I've said a lot of ♥♥♥♥, posted a lot of cringe, and generally made an ass of myself online. I'll be the first to own up to the fact that I'm a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and that I've ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. That's what a man does - owns up to their mistakes, makes amends, learns from them and goes from there.

As to this alias here, I'm adversarial by nature. I like ciphers. I use the Elder Futhark as one. The name is Adversary. And the mask associated with it is taken from Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut. From the Feurerstelle, from Glory's personal mission. That's the gist of it. This is the alias I use here at this point in time.

But I've got other masks to wear in other locales. Kind of foolish to use the same name everywhere. That's bad opsec.
I hope you do write that book, Del. I think it would be a good read.

All the best to you.

Probably good that what he did is past the statue of limitations as well. Would make a good read, I'd bet.

Can't disagree. ^^

Well, disclaimer - I'm not an attorney or a legal expert, so take what I say with a grain of salt - but from what I've looked into regarding it, to me it sounds like bank fraud. That's got a statute of limitations of one year as a misdemeanor, three years as a felony. So if what he did was back in the heydays of the BBS, phreaking and the like, then that was course prior to Eternal September I'd think. So it's well past the statute of limitations.

I might get around to it. I just can never mention the bank though or I'll be toast. I think. I need to look into it.

Yea, was over 34 years ago. I won't ever name the institution though. That was a lifetime NDA.
