It would have printed money a few years ago but the pandemic has likely caused a drastic reduction in tourism.
I don't know if it's reliable or accurate but I do remember reading somewhere that it was a popular political move to turn it back to a "mosque" so that was probably the motivation. In a post-pandemic world it may get turned back to a museum.
Unless you say "turkish coffee." Then your kneecaps are forfeit.
Old uneducated goats are so easy to manipulate with religion and this is how they've kept the power for the past 20 or so years. This is also why voting rates are so high (90%+ compared to around 65% in the US) in turkey because this has turned into some kind of holy crusade at this point. A generational fight. A fight he is losing right now because old people are inevitably dying and a lot of gen z (and by a lot i mean around 7 million, there were a total of 59 million eligible voters in 2018 election for comparison) are voting in the upcoming elections in 2023. And i can tell you, genz hates him with a burning passion. In the summer of 2020, he streamed a zoom session in youtube with candidates of the (then) upcoming university access exam, people began spamming "#oymoyyok" (can be translated roughly as no votes for you) in the chat, they eventually locked the comments over this and the video got a dislike record.

This whole mosque thing was one of his last attempts to spur religious morons one last time. I can assure you the museum is going to be restored as soon as a sensible party takes over. First of all it is going to start printing money again when the pandemic is over and the second and more important reason is it was originally turned into a museum by the founder of the country. This was a big insult to him and his legacy.
Constantinople sounds better
That's why i made an earlier post about extremely wealthy but corrupt Global Elite Families here. They need to make peaceful civilians to become enemies for each other (by using various historical or present events as a spark point), because it is the only way they can continue their corruption behind the scenes and laugh at both belligerents while enjoying their champagne. 🥂
I barely see that hate ngl
Not even on memes related to that

Surprising considering all the bad blood since the late 1800's with two wars, conflicts involving Cyprus and the Greek minority in Turkey and to a minor extent issues in the Aegean sea.
Hmmm greek accent looks similar to the spanish one (except south)
