What are your "red flags" in gaming?
Something that when you see it, it makes you skeptical of a game's success or quality.

Of course they're not 100% accurate, but when you follow the industry for a while, you notice some tells and patterns like these.

Like, for me when the devs try to force a hip label like "The Dark Souls of FPS" or "The -popular game- Killer". That's a red flag.

When the DLC costs more than the base game and there is a ridiculous amount of it.

Early access survival.

When the New York Times has an article about it
1) Bad keyboard support
2) MMO, FPS, card game, battle royale, horror
3) Bad colour schemes or grayscale/brownscale prevailing.
4) No Windows 7 support
5) Punishing difficulty.

-AAA, over-hyped game bound to be a mess on release for a couple months or longer
-Anything that's advertised on content creators videos as a sponsor.
-Blatant ripoff of another game, with different graphics but a similar name.

All this but also "this will change gaming forever", the more I head this the more I grow skeptical. Noticed this after CyberPunk but it goes back to No Mans Sky too. Most games I think of that really changed gaming like Minecraft were sleeper hits.

I guess if a game hasn't been released yet and it has a gofundme. because crowd-funded games like those have been notorious lately for getting a bunch of funded money and then being released & being really bad
Regardless of how good the preview videos are if the Steam Store page indicates that its still in "Early Access" thats a huge red flag. That means its not a real game yet.

However if a game self proclaims thar be red flags and you can know this before even buying it then perhaps they know how to make fun of the industry. I'd certainly respect the honesty rather than being baited into buying something later that can't be earned in-game but is required to finish the quest.

Achievements just for the sake of having them doesn't make a good game, however if its a complicated game they are hints at how to get gud and that is much appreciated.

"Massive world with hundreds of hours coz of PrOcEdUrAl GeNeRaTiOn......"

I'll take a small, handcrafted world with a 5 hour story over your 100's of hours any day of the week. If you can't be arsed to make your world unique and interesting then I can't be arsed to play it.

Devs that delete negative reviews and any kind of criticism. Had to deal with that myself recently, needless to say I have removed the game and will not play it anymore.

Game developers don't have the ability to delete reviews on Steam.

are you certain? I have known reviews to get deleted before.

I'm certain. Steam Support can remove them, however, if the reviews get reported.

Scroll down to the FAQ at the bottom of this article and read the second question:

https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/reviews

regardless I do know the developers in question censor and delete any criticism from the steam forum and discord and are more than happy to hand out community bans for nothing. It is a definite red flag when developers act this protective over their games image.
