Wasn't it just a hub or a switch?
it was a combined router/modem called a spider modem, it looked a bit like a spider i guess.
back then we called them gateways, first time was at a lan party at 95. before we used serial cables >-> to lan.
I dont recall that, just that it took around 10-15mins for 3-4mb song.
my first modem was 14.4 one, i can still remember the high phonebills... since you payed by the minute. one month i had around a 400$ bill. geez my dad exploded.
People would generally have ping values of somewhere between 100 to 150. Sometimes 200. Or worse.
In Europe server???
Well, did servers exist back then?
in sweden there are some rural areas that cant get better internet other than dial-up.
ill give you 1 example. Quake 3 on the Dreamcast we had 33.3k modems with 175 ping but the gameplay was really smooth, very playable.
wasnt q3 realesed early 2k on dreamcast?
Had faster speeds than that almost 10 years before with 128k isdn over 2 phone lines :D
