Increased toxicity in gaming every year
Can someone say what happened? I started playing games quite a while ago and I can say that even in the era of COD MW2 people were no where near as toxic as they are now, now a lot of people are insanely toxic. What made this change happen?

More people play games nowadays. Though even in the MW2 era loads of people were toxic, heck in the 90s many online gamers were arseholes.

Increased toxicity not really, more people being toxic yes hence more people playing than before.

The level of toxic about same as you're used to back then even to now, just that you're likely to encounter more people as there more people playing video games than back then.

You can encounter toxic people more likely on very competitive games, or games with ranking.

There difference between people being playful toxic, and rude toxic. The difference where someone may be rude, but not actually a bad person, and don't whole heartedly mean hurtful things said to you, while there people that pure toxic that meant it with their hurtful things. Don't let words hurt you, it just words, there people that like getting people upset, and been a thing for longest time since the internet became popular in the 90s, such as trolls, and so on.

Things have been increasingly toxic in multiplayer gaming at least since the original Xbox was released. Back in the days of LAN and PC multiplayer on private servers, things felt nicer, at least from my perspective. I remember playing Jedi Knight, and there were these unspoken rules of engagement for lightsaber battles. Everyone ended the round with a nice "GG", instead of saying what horrible things they have done to my mother. If squeaky children on the mic have anything to say about it, my mom is apparently quite the promiscuous woman. News to me.
different upbringing

Back when I played, the social imbeciles in multiplayer gaming were a real sharp pain in the ass (and the eventual reason I switched to single player games full time).

I honestly can't imagine what a freak show multiplayer games must be today. 🙄

Gaming is much more competitively oriented these days. Fortnite, Overwatch, League of Legends, CS:GO, Rainbow Six, and probably dozens of others. That's what's popular. Games can't just be games, it has to be multiplayer, and be competitive for many people. This effects people's views on gaming and other people in general.

And team based games can be toxic, but team based competitive games are even worse.

Well... you are playing multiplayer right now.

This IS the freak show, if you haven't noticed. You are right in the middle of it. You just need to open your third eye, to see things as they are. :Eye_tv:

What are you saying lol

Toxicity has NOT changed AT ALL, ppl in 2021 were as toxic in 2008 and even before that

Its becuase the internet is anonymous... (You know that story alredy)

What it DID change is the amount of ppl, obviously nowadays waay more ppl can afford internet and way more ppl play online videogames so obviously that ll lead to more toxic ppl becuase there are more ppl playing

Just mute these ppl and move on
...

I d rather have more ppl playing videogames than less toxicity becuase there are lots of tools against that

We did, it just wasn't as ubiquitous, and most users were on dial-up.

Nice joke. But toxic chats were a thing even back in the 90s, via non games such as forums, and so, to late 90s on MMO's such as Ultima, ever quest, and so on, which yes people could chat to each other.

But back then it's a lot smaller scale of people compare to today scale of people.

In the early 2000s a lot of people got internet through their phones, yeah. When I was little, I remember phone calls would interrupt the internet connection. I also could hear my mom's conversations through the computer. It would slow the internet so bad, that you couldn't search anything so long as people were talking.

As long as this makes sense to you, its okay. Toxic people connected to the internet with their phones... whatever.
