Hey, Dana from Overwolf here :)
Just wanted to mention that there are more video recording apps available on our appstore that you can try for League and for other games.
For automatic recording, there's Game Summary[www.overwolf.com], which will automatically capture highlights for you (kills, deaths, wins) and keep them organized under matches and sessions. Other apps can be found here[www.overwolf.com].
Feel free to visit our support site[overwolf.freshdesk.com] for more info!
The best I've seen is medal.tv which doesn't do this at the moment but I believe it's on their radar to add in the fire if I read correctly.
The first time that i noticed that the logo was changed i've downgraded it to version 1.18.2-r120419 and stopped the update everytime at the startup.
I wish someone come here out of blue, and find a way to make it work again without the online stuff.
Now, in the 2020, i can't find anything similar, someone says that Medal.tv is the "new" Plays.tv, i've tried it and, first of all you need an account, it works ONLY with some new gen games, and it use the replay feature only (record the past) just for 2 mins...
Come on, even the freaking old Fraps has more options than this and can replay/time buffer as well, it can record what you want, not just new gen games, the only problem is that is heavy on performance.
People says that OBS is the best, IMHO nope, it surely has lots of customizzable stuff and can record desktop too, but you need to set more hotkeys to do practically the same thing, ie: start recording and stop recording needs 2 different hotkeys, the replay buffer as well, plus you have to start the replay buffer manually before to start the game, just WHY!?
The most close program to it is not free, imho is Action! from Mirills, you can decide to record desktop or games only,
If you choose games, you can record manually and/or use the "Time-Shift" option (it record the past X mins you set) without the need to start or stop it manually every stupid time, it save the last x mins and the loop start again, you can also start to manually recording at the same time, and you'll have 2 separate videos (like Plays.tv).
It is not so hard to set, the first time you have to spend a bit of time ofc, but it is pretty clean and intuitive and i hope the devs will never change/ruins it, like many others did to their own softwares...
Just to be correct, both OBS and Medal.tv are in development, they are both free and can be improved a lot, so, maybe a day they can become complete tools.
people don't know what's good. We say that every time good store closes and bad one remain.
I know I'm not alone in this. it's why i loved plays.tv; i just told it how much hard drive space it could use, and it would auto-record everything, deleting old footage like a dashcam.
Versus Manually Recording Games, & having them Automatically Saved...
I think this is what they mean?
They have it all.
Wrong you don't need 2 keys to start and stop the recording in OBS one key will work just fine. My F9 key starts and stops recordings in OBS.
Does this...
Overlay: Windows + g
You can Auto Record up to a maximum of 10 Mins.
If you Manually Record though, you can get up to a Max of 4 hrs.
I think AMD ReLive also does this with a Setting...
Overlay: Alt + z
Instant Replay
&
In-Game Replay
One of those might help, however I have them off by default,
because once their on, I have a hard time getting them to stop
recording, & my Game starts to lagg, skipp, & studder with
them on for a while... Because apparently even when the
Box is deactivated, it does not stop recording...
No idea why, but usually quitting kills the process entirely...
IDK man, i spent like 2 hours on it right 3 days ago (uninstalled and reinstalled again, to be sure), it did not work properly, i had to put 2 hotkeys to make it work, also, at the begin of the video i've also experienced white screen and then suddenly the video started in a random point (the sound was played correctly from the start).
Plus i had to use "Display Capture" on some old games, instead of "Game Capture", or it won't even start to record.
Is not like i did not test it, also changed some video settings, nothing made it work properly.
My version 23.0.3 x64 allows me to use the same key with no problems. I wouldn't of told you this if it wasn't true. Here is a video i just made to show that i can use both. It don't show the first click but i do show my settings box and the same key to stop recording.
