why doesnt valve make games like they used to?
Valve have really been innovators in the gaming scene and it shows, they have steam, the largest and most successful game distribution service of all time, along with amazing games that are still getting played to this day. While I know that valve has worked their asses off for so long and they definitely deserve a break, it doesn't make it any less upsetting to know that they have pretty much stopped making games

Yes I know half life alyx is a thing and how it has set a new standard for VR, but gaming right now is so uninspired and honestly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ apart from a few exceptions. Valve like many other companies have grown complacent on what they have and would rather continually support those games, rather than making new IPs and other steps forward.

Also I know that valve at an operational level is extremely liberal and lacks any sort of hierarchy, but enough has to be enough and maybe its time to organise your employees to work on something as a collective.

They make more money exploiting people for games that don't even function, and hat crates

TF2 and CSGO make them a lot of money, so they're far from far gone

I'm not talking about from our perspective, I'm talking about from Valves perspective. They literally only care that it makes them money

Selling games people despise is a lot easier than developing games people like. The company's history with developing functional hardware hasn't fared much better. When Valve keeps it simple and focuses on doing one thing and doing it well, the end results are pretty darn amazing.

When they try to be the jack of all trades, however, they end up being the master of none. That's not a bug, it's a feature of scaled operations.
they dont need to worry about it, steam makes them so much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ money its insane. They constantly ♥♥♥♥ over indie devs with 30% cut of all sales. They can afford a failure, which they have multiple times. They clearly have the talent to make games people love too.

Valve's been releasing games every 2 years since 2014.

But sure, act like they don't make games anymore...

And theyre probably selling the vids on OF too

keep defending a giant ass corporation, just because other companies are equally as ♥♥♥♥♥♥ doesnt mean its ok in the first place? Also dont count artifact as a game, thats a mindless cash in and everyone knows it, you didn't play it and neither did 99% of the population, how much money is too much money? we'll never know :steammocking:

Valve has slowed down their game production rate to a ridiculous amount, half life alyx is really the only notable release in years. Valve used to make games a lot more frequently

Steam is own by valve so talking about valve is probably a bad idea.

Because, the risk of failure, is higher than the chance of success.
Just being a platform and community, nicks them more income than anything else.

But well.. they do try other stuff now and then.. with their Valve Index (VR) and soon Steamdeck (portable)
