twitch is okay with in game music, but not it being played on youtube
bruh does twitch know half life music from kelly baily isnt copy right to the extent it think it is? cuz it decides to copyright me playing half life ost's on youtube, but i dont get copyrighted from the ost's when its playing in game? bruh

Like valve them selfs said its all good, but does twitch know?

or is it only that i cant listen to the ost from youtube on stream, despite the fact that i can use it no problem , cuz im surely didnt get my stream muted all the other times the music was clearly playing

i didnt get a copy right claim, just got a part of my VOD muted, and im not really told why
this is so dumb

Laws on livestreaming music in general are very poor, and nonsensical. Can't expect reason from the unreasonable.

Ah right, there was a question in there! I was so busy flexing my opinions that I forgot about that. Not sure if you'll get many people on OT that'd know the answer though, we mostly talk about foods and animals over, the "help and tips" section of the forums might get the attention of a valve employee if you're wondering about what's allowed or not.

I've read that some in-game music (or music licensed to the game to play on in-game radios) has also given some streamers DMCA copystrikes. (It's got to the point where some games, e.g. Cyberpunk, include the option to turn off DMCA-protected music while keeping all other licensed in-game radio music).

Add to that the instances where Dragonforce's Herman Li once got a copystrike for playing his OWN music on his OWN Twitch stream, and Metallica having their music censored out on stream when they played this past Blizzcon.

I just feel the music industry is getting far too trigger-happy with the DMCA. It's hurting Twitch and the game-streaming business (especially for smaller and lesser-known streamers), it bars certain games from being able to be streamed because of their soundtrack rather than any gratuitous adult content, it criminalizes the promotion of music that deserves more exposure and promotion (but sure, it's okay for Beyonce and Justin Bieber to benefit from illicit payola schemes :winter2019angryyul: ), and it's hurting lesser-known musical acts who would benefit from the exposure and promotion they would get from having their music played. This isn't like the Napster situation from 20+ years ago where people traded MP3's of songs that they could have found on a widely-available album. The DMCA seriously needs to be fixed where it doesn't cause all this trouble.

like what are they really gaining by copyright striking you? most likely nothing, it be hard to stream games for everyone to see, without the key element of the music,

though best i can do is research if so and so game's music is copyright or not, which half life music as a green light, but with a limitation,

though for bioshock thats a different question, because it has there own music and then music from other artists, which is a pain, and youd have to turn it off , though idk about music being played in the cutscenes, not that you may have control over that? (youtube only copyright claimed me on the music playing in the loading screens, which make sense, cuz its not the games ost)
