Good car under 20K?
So I decided I will go a bit more conservative with the budget for new car, as we live in uncertain times.

Although Beemers/Mercs/Alfas/Porsches are tempting, I feel I would have too much expenses with them.

So I decided for something more rational - a compact car for a fair price.

So now I'm looking at things like Clio, 208, Polo, Giulietta.

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Honda Civic (new)

New with warranty and likely a service contract, yes? I'd say you put the best option first here. I've had good luck with the few Hondas I've owned. Change the oil regularly and the motor will last forever*.

All the rest I'm either not familiar with or I wouldn't buy for myself. Then again, I tend to maintain my own vehicles and I won't buy anything that isn't user-serviceable. YMMV.

(*And it looks like you've picked the 1.5 turbo. DEFINITELY keep the oil fresh in it.)

((2nd edit: And with a 6 speed manual transmission, it's absolutely the one I'd pick for myself.))

I'm thinking I'll go with the Beetle tbh.

It's used but it's not pricy and it's pretty cool.

Also I like "retro".

I could go for Porsche too but I think maintenance costs would be too high.

Any of these you'd go for?
Civic.

I don't doubt it's a good car, but it's not the Type R version and I think I'd attract too much attention from them street racing kiddies who'd try to "compete" with me, and that's not what I want. (I'd take it to the race track to try out it's real abilities)

Maintenance on the Porsche would definitely be high. From what I've heard anyway.

The Beetle looked pretty good. The diesel version was never sold here in the States, but I hear good things about it.

I wouldn't buy another VW though because the company does not allow any repair manuals to be sold for any model year after 2011.

My partner has a 2012 Jetta and her wipers went out last winter. We had to tow it to the shop (in the freezing rain) because they wouldn't tell us what fuse number to check and the owner's manual had no information.

I won't own a car that doesn't have, at a minimum, a Haynes or Chilton's manual available.

Avoid anything with a CVT, they are designed to be unserviceable, any significant workload or heavy acceleration will either cause the ECU and TCU to cut throttle and reduce boost (On Turbo models) to prevent rapid torque buildup to stop the chain from slipping on the sheeves.

I can't really provide you any advice on any of those cars apart from the potential of the CVT on the Honda, all my experience with vehicles is on Japanese and (Imported) US Brand Cars like GM or Ford, Australian's aren't very fond of European cars due to the horrendous support and replacement part wait times we get here. Holden's used to be the way to go, but since GM cancelled them, we've only got import options, and most people here pick Japanese.

If you're in the market for a Sedan, I would pick either the Toyota Camry with the 2.5L A25A-FKS Dynamic Force engine and the eight speed Aisin automatic transmission, or the 2GR-FKS Direct/Port Injected V6 with that same transmission.

The Mazda6 with the 2.5L SkyActiv-G PY-VPTS Turbocharged engine would also be an awesome vehicle to drive, the Six Speed SkyActiv-Drive Automatic is a weapon, drives lovely, always is in the right gear for the condition and responds very quickly. That is the Automatic that ruined me, and converted me from a Manual Only driver to an Auto driver.

It's a shame what happened to Holden and I'm saying this as a American. Your advice is spot on though. I recommended a Toyota sedan earlier.
