Why are strategy games like Total war warhammer or Crusader Kings so expensive?
Why are strategy games so expensive? Total war warhammer is still $60 and there are a bunch of DLC that are like $10-20 each. Same thing with Stellaris. 4x games are the only type of game either than MMO's that seem to be super pricey.

Am I missing something? Is it insanely difficult to code a game like this? Is making AI expensive? Is it the map or the mechanics? or are they just greedy?

Because they're new(er) and that's typically the price of games as new as they are (also popularity will keep a games price up for longer) that are made by companies as big as they are.

Like why were call of duty and assassin creed games 80 to 120 (If you got the special version) dollars on release when they came out with 2 or 3 a year and were nothing more than reskins of the same game)? Or sports games and their yearly release and they're identical to the game from last year but with updated rosters? Because suckers will pay for it

I've had Total War Warhammer 2 wishlisted for... a long time.

The price never dips that much, pretty sure it's publisher greed.

Pretty sure I bought total war Warhammer 2 for like 20 bucks or less on sale (hard to remember, but I too only buy on sale and had it on my list for a long time before it came down) a few months back.

Dang, must've missed it, or prioritized something else over it, idk... Guess I'll have to wait for the next time it dips that low

The thing about CKII is that you do not have to buy all the DLC. There's only 3 or 4 recommened DLC for CKII.

Same to Train Sim or any Race Sim.. you just buy the DLC you like; I love UK train tracks and cabs, so I only buy UK stuff. I do not buy any other. See it as a hobby model-store. Lots of Rc-cars but I will not buy every RC-car, lol.

Also lots of games do have DLC as cut-content etc etc. Its bad for us gamers. I miss the days when you had a base game and 1.5 years later a huge expansion that shakes things up, etc.

They do go on sale, for sure. I've seen Warhammer 1 drop to $14.99, I recall.

That being said, yeah, I think it's very strange that a game that's 4 years old is still full price - especially with a sequel that's been out for 3 of those years. That's the sort of thing that I only ever remember seeing a company like Activision do, with Call of Duty.

I'm not sure what the benefit is for keeping it so high. Unless it has something to do with them designing it so that you can have all of the content from Warhammer 1 in Warhammer 2.

I should amend that post, I was talking about Total War Warhammer 2, not the first. Warhammer 1 isn't on my wishlist, so I can't speak of those sales.

Well if youre gonna get TW:WH2 then you gotta get the first one too. They stick together into bigger game. They're kinda like expansions of each other.

Because the publishers know there is no point in really lowering the prices, as many players purchase games based on % of the discount (where are my 80-90% disounts) and not on actual discounted price. So they keep the base price higher so they can slap a bigger % discount on it.

Somehow people rather purchase a 60 bucks game that is in a 75% discount than a 30 bucks game with a 50% discount. Cause apparently the latter isn't a good deal, even though the actual sales price is the same.
