I played something inspired after FF yet unique - Silver, a very good Western-made JRPG.
I don't know if I would enjoy it that much still now but it is a good game in my opinion even if I dislike the jrpg genre in general.
However, I have been binge playing FF5 for awhile until I got sick
Out of those, my favorites are probably 10, 9, 8 and 6.
I still like to rewatch the stories on youtube every now and then and the soundtracks are awesome, too.
I always wanted to try 7, but... meh.
Dropped the whole series after 12. That one was pretty boring already. Stories and worlds became less consistent or creative, key features less interesting and some elements became quite ridiculous. Less fantasy, more silliness with every new title.
The only thing about 13 that I found interesting was the story. But the extreme linearity, bad writing and silly execution (Who the hell came up with those summons?) even kept me from watching a "let's play" of the game. Had absolutely zero interest in 15, that doesn't have much to do with FF anymore.
I now hope that the next one takes a more "back to the roots" approach again.
