Definitely not anytime soon, maybe 10-15 years.
Though everything is a lot more expensive in Niagara Falls.
Or the Northwest Angle.
It really is a hard call to make. A lot would depend on how wealthy you are and the lifestyle you want to live at.
Canada offers a cleaner environment. Less litter on the streets, people care more about that kind of thing there.
If you are looking for the city life of excitement probably the US has more options but less safety.. also with the flu issues cities and parties have been shut down. More bands tour the US than Canada but concerts may be a thing of the past.
Also with climate change <for whatever reason> Canada is a better bet for temperatures, but places like Vancouver on the west coast seem a lot warmer due to ocean effects.
Things like healthcare are kind of a coin toss.. and depends on if you are going to need to rely on the state for help or can afford things yourself so it comes down to if you are going to need a job and how much you can afford to have taken out of that.
Many things are pretty much the same. Most of Canadian cities are on the southern tier so going to the USA normally isn't a problem for visiting or tourism... either one you go to you could explore both easily.
I was afraid it would come down to this.
In my opinion, Canada might be the objectively better country and I would love to live there for sure, but the US is just... the US. It's like the most iconic country in the world with the best nature and the most variety, at least to me.
One of my biggest dreams is doing a road trip all across the entire US, but I can't really say the same about Canada, etc.
the US is on fire right now
It is absolutely lovely in BC/Vancouver... However, don't go there & expect to have the same comfort levels unless you are wealthy. It's really quite pricey to live there.
I think OP should narrow down to cities, not nations as there are vast differences between cities within each nation.
Also, I recommend doing a worst-case scenario projection. Some cities/areas may be desirable however if/when the shít well and truly hits the fan then you are going to want to be somewhere where you can survive.
I think Boston would be great in every category except for the price, San Diego seems really nice too.
Another factor is what you like to do. If you ski I'd lean more toward Canada.
In terms of financial future? Canada has one of the best and most stable banking institutions. The US banks are too unregulated and it hurts the country having to bail them out.
The only thing saving the USA right now is the petrodollar and forcing people to use US currency to trade for oil.... those on "our" side. This is pretty much why the US can run with a deficit and make it a "special case"... and why we have wars to keep the status quo going. But that could collapse at any time, the balloon will probably burst making China the place you want to live. It may not happen in our lifetimes but it is another factor to consider before investing your life and future in a country.
With the way the pandemic is running & affecting economies it seems premature to settle on one particular place. Maybe make a list of desirable cities and cross-compare with survivability.
Cross country truck drivers often say Pennsylvania is the prettiest state to drive through. And you can live close to Philadelphia but still be out in the forests. I am up in the mountains here about 2 hrs from both Philly and NYC and surrounded by 3 state game lands and have deer constantly wandering around on my property and coming to the door looking for treats.
One thing about being in San Diego was that you could drive out to where the highway ended and go off-roading and shooting fairly close to the city... say one guy wipe out and killed himself , at least the ambulance got there quick. But if you like to off-road in the desert that may be a plus for you.
