They have to keep it all nice and sound like it's not scary. They tell us that space force won't be fighting in space, that we have nothing to worry about. Think about it, the only people that can join the spaceforce are military members that are approved. They want to keep what they know a secret, have people they can trust. If everyone believed that aliens were coming, society could have huge distruptions, so the government decides to hide it because they don't think we can handle the truth.

I mean, Earth is big, our missiles take time to reach any alien ship in orbit. All aliens have to do is enter orbit and fire before we can react and all our cities are dust. They might not even have to enter orbit, just throw missiles at us from afar and we couldn't do much to stop it.

You're getting it all wrong. There's no fighting alien invasion, I mean you could fight against it but you'll only make a fool out of yourself, like an ant biting on a shoe that stomps on it.

Between GPS, drone control and intelligence, satellites have become a cornerstone of the (US) fighting machine. Space Command/Force has been set up to identify and counter threats from other nations to US satellites, and develop, maintain and exexute contingency plans should satellite capability be negatively affected.

As for aliens, governments and church are just responding to increasing scientific insight about the sheer scale of the universe and potential number of life supporting planets out there. No sense to keep shouting the sky is green in light of overwhelming (circumstantial) evidence it is in fact blue. At this stage it's more about when we find extra-terrestrial life, than if.
