Last Jedi wasn't perfect but I did like how it tried to subvert several Star Wars tropes and tried to be its own movie, not just a remake of ESB. It also tried to set up the next movie to not just be a remake of RotJ.
Rise of Skywalker was a remake of RotJ, even though the previous movie tried to make sure it wasn't going to be. It also didn't wrap up all the questions Force Awakens set up in a satisfactory way. Therefore making Force Awakens not good either.
TL;DR, FA had potential but it was wasted, TlJ wasn't great but I respect what it tried to be, and RoSW was underwhelming in a way that devalued the rest of the trilogy.
However, they didn't do it right. Seriously, did the directors ever actually talk to one another about the story?
The Sequel trilogy could've been so, so much better. As it stands, it's better then some Legends content (lookin' at you, Suncrusher), and worse than everything else.
Give me Clone Wars, Mandalorian, even Rebels any day of the week over the Sequel trilogy.
Maybe...maybe not. I keep hearing rumors over Disney considering creating a new Sequel Trilogy the way George intended, because they were disappointed in the box office revenue that their own Sequels had produced.
Stuff like The Mandalorian is basically carrying Star Wars at this point, because everything else is in limbo.
Honestly, I just hope that Disney doesn't renew its contract with EA in the next year or so. Since EA has to be the WORST choice overall for exclusive rights to the production of Star Wars games. I don't think I even need to mention the amount of controversy they have generated since they acquired the license.
Agree...
It comes down to George... the original story was his and his alone, tight and to the point. The "prequels" less so because he was loosening the reins a bit. After that... it was a freeforall... too many hands pulling the story too many different ways, what generally happens when something is run by a committee.
Not to mention... it was George's baby... a movie made out of seeing a dream realized. The prequels done because he thought he was running out of time to do so and wanted to see the story complete ( which is why he started with iV ) and even if it wasn't completely his it is what it is... anything after was made out of greed and agendas.
What I understand ( on the outside looking in ) The Mandalorian was trying to get back to the basics and seemed to resonate well with Star Wars fans in the most part... but is slowly going off the rails and back into greed and agendas I guess we'll see if it makes it or not... since it's T.V. and not a movie it's future won't be known until it keeps going, or gets canceled.
I liked it better before they started throwing in as many characters from the Clone Wars series as possible... I can't help but feel like this decision was forced upon the writers by Disney execs. I mean it was doing pretty damn well as a space western...but they just had to bring up the Jedi again...
So tired of those space wizard freaks.
edit: I don't mind the baby Yoda since they aren't technically a Jedi. Just a force sensitive. But the moment you bring back Ahsoka...enough.
Exactly...
Because George only had a limited vision of what he wanted to tell... Disney execs ( and I can't give a pass to the writers either ) are just trying to filter as many fanfics in as they can into a story that will never congeal into anything coherent because they are trying to please everyone at the same time. Rather then George just happy with what he wanted to tell and hoping that others remembered serial movie shorts like he did as a kid...
I only like the original 3 from the 70's and 80's the rest is just trash. But then they are not originals since they went back and changed stuff in the original 3.
I agree
Yep. Even I grew up with the 90s special edition version of the originals..although tbh I consider it the best version because it didn't change too much stuff and the changes it made were improvements. Han still shoots first. Sebastian Shaw is still Anakin in ROTJ. But it made improvements on stuff like sound design and adding a few more aliens to certain scenes to bring more life to the world and all.
Whaaaaaaaaaat??!?
Jedi Rocks is way better. Okay okay can we at least agree that the victory celebration theme at the end of ROTJ is better than the original (Yub Nub)
And why change the name to Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Such a stupid stupid move. Should of just left it at Star wars, Star wars return of the jedi and star wars the empire strikes back.
I'm guessing that it was so it lined up with the prequels. Back then it was weird, but now it kind of makes sense. Sorry man, I grew up with the 90s special edition on VHS. It's pretty much all I know and the first chance I got to see the Star Wars movies in theatres were the prequels, so they never felt bad to me. Nostalgia is definitely driving that opinion though.
I'd have killed to see the original movies in theatres, but I wasn't born yet
