Do people trust gaming websites and make decisions based on their opinion?
I mean, websites like IGN and such. They just seem to give very high scores to any AAA games.

As long as you agree with :gorby: then it is alright.

I think most of us do make our own decisions but we are all influenced by outside forces in some way or another, this we can not escape.

Yes there are people that look towards gaming review sites make decisions. There are those that use uncredible sites like IGN and there are those that look for sites that can be trusted. I usually just rely on Steam Reviews or comments and ratings in Youtube to make my decisions.

You probably just want to follow the developers that create games that you like, because those developers should have a better idea about what you like, opposed to someone on the internet who does not know you, seeing how you already like the games which they made, instead of an opinion from someone who does not work on them, and has an opinion that may not even be your own. Right?

Stay with the developers that you know, and make nice games for you, because those are the people working on the titles that you like and want to support, because the reviewer will probably not create a game for you. No matter how much you agree with their opinions, they are not the guys working on the game titles.

I would say steam reviews is one of the worst places to judge games by but then again that's just my own opinion on this. Me personally find that just watching gameplay videos suit me just fine.

In the past, our only choices were to read reviews in gaming magazine or look at screen shots at the back of the game itself.

Honestly, I'm iffy about any gaming journalism. The sole exception to this is GameInformer, as they do more than just game reviews, and I've found that when they do game reviews, they're quite objective. Most of the time.

Before I buy a game, I might watch some gameplay on YouTube, read player reviews on Steam, read about the game, basically get my information from more than one source. I do the same thing with media.

They're fake news

I read the negative steam user reviews first to see if I'll like the game. I'm usually more sold on the game based on the negative reviews than the positive because they're more detailed in describing aspects of the game.

Nope, I don't trust them at all.

Not because of the scoring though.

My issue with IGN and related sites (GameSpot, Kotaku, Polygon, GiantBomb, etc) is that the reviewers from all these sites have more or less the exact same taste in games and the same ideology. So you get reviews that are pretty much the same, the same opinions and reflections.

If a game gets 9/10 or even 10/10 from all these sites, it's easy to think "oh, the game must be great". However, if all these reviewers have the same taste in games, then of-course you will get a whole bunch of 9-10/10's. Similarily if they don't like a game, this system is particularily bad when they come across a game they don't like.

Absolutely not. IGN initially gave Prey 2017 a 4/10, citing bugs, and it's my favourite game this gen (and I've played though the 1.0 version without encountering any bugs). Meanwhile they gave Metro Exodus an 8.5/10 (which it deserves, it's a good game too) and I've been experiencing a ton of bugs and glitches on a fully patched playthrough.

I guess what I'm saying is I don't view them as a reliable/consistent source for reviews. I actually think they're full of ♥♥♥♥.
