What is that meme about? From my understanding, some guy on The Verge made a video showing how to build a PC, but it's apparently disastrous and completely inaccurate?

The build was atrocious.

-PSU was out in so the fan was choked off.

-Poured thermal paste all over the CPU

-Put memory in side by side, so no dual channel support.

-Puts a rubber band around their wrist and calls it an “Anti-Static Bracelet”

-Forgot to put fans on their AIO water cooler, then uses the long bolt and goes all the way through the radiator.

-Says it doesn’t matter what slot you put your graphics card into

The one thing I remember my IT friend told me about building computers, is that you should never screw in the standoff screws of your motherboard too tight. Otherwise the heat would cause it to expand too much and crack.

"Screw in with confidence"? Yeah, no. Not that tight.

Unless he told me something that's false. Kind of hard to know what's truth and what's fiction. Makes sense to me though.

OMG. LMAO! I just watched that reaction video. Like, I'm not even a PC builder (I've always bought pre-built and just put in new parts in the right place if I wanted better performance and higher settings) but even I would know the most basic ♥♥♥♥ on what goes where and how to align them. Who the hell did Verge hire to make that PC and how have they not been sued for misinformation?!! lol "Take this brick". IT'S A PSU, YOU UNCULTURED SWINE!!!

I'd think an "or someone" did, and said "Publish it; this'll get us so many clicks."

Remember, every time you view a "stupid" video, "as a joke", or "just to laugh at it"; you're still giving them money and the feedback that they should make more such videos.

So you either stop watching them, or admit your hypocrisy. Either works.

Editors don't exist anymore, as everyone realised that quantity of content was what got them paid, not carefully curated and well-edited content

Never screw in with confidence. Always check to make sure you aren't putting the long screw in the short hole.

Also read the motherboard manual so you know what speed your PCI slots are and what your memory channels are.

As for the orientation of the PSU - how??? The screw holes should only fit one way.

The anti-static wrist band isn't a big deal. Just touch the bare metal of the case before you touch any components. What you need to be afraid of is a static zap like if you shuffled your feet on carpet. If you don't feel a zap after touching metal you're fine.

The pea-sized blob on the CPU is a little OCD. I like to use a toothpick to spread my thermal paste on the CPU. Modern day CPU's have bigger die sizes than in the old days and I've found I need to use almost 2 pea-sized blobs to get an even spread all the way to the edges. I spread because if you just use the pea in the middle method when you smoosh it down it might not smoosh all the way to the edges and then you get hot spots on the CPU.

Now granted I only use non-conductive thermal paste. If I was using a metal-based thermal paste I might be a little more OCD about it.
