The potential danger, is in the incorrect usage of use in terms of what is considered "standards" ofc some can change and this is from a neutral perspective not just bad, it can also be good! The rap focused on lyrics without much meaning and just violence and sex, could potentially be harmful to individuals whom think that is how you talk to people, but so could rock, pop, metal, etc... so well..
What we could debate is, if Rap is actually music. If we look at hip hop or mixtures with it, then I am inclined to say yes, if we talk that new age rap with a simplistic beat and someone talking about his mom.. then no... Then it is instead recited poetry. (Rap should just be called Caligulan recitation)
Brain damage, no.
