Not so.
Most people just "peck" type but there's a variety of other ways to type, there's even alternative keyboards. When I was in high school, I heard that the person who had the record for typing fastest in the world used a keyboard that was shaped like an accordion.
I know how to type using home row/touch typing/traditional/whatever. And I unlearnt how.

Oh... that's probably our "10 finger system".
Theoretically, I've learned that a long time ago. Practically, as I had already been using keyboards for a long time, using the "proper" system was very cumbersome and slow, so it was basically a waste of time.
I can pretty much find keys without looking, especially when combined with muscle-memory -- it's easy to write proper text, or program code, but random letters are pretty bad. Also, sometimes I make more typing errors than on other days, but then again -- I never really used an actual typewriter like that (I've always been way more careful when using those), and the "backspace" key is free and leaves no trace on the final document.
I'm assuming my mother still uses the 10-fingers system properly, but I'm not sure.
My father, on the other hand... they had lots of computers when he was still working, but he's also had a secretary, and management wasn't really expected to work on computers yet. So, in the family, his typing skills are the worst :-)
In class the teacher put a box over our hands and the keyboard so we'd end up with muscle memory to know which keys are which. I hated it at first, but it was a great way to learn looking back on it now
Yeah, people say I'm a fast typer too. I'm not very good though really.
Ridiculous part was that after outperforming teachers own score she gave my grade a minus due to not using the same technique.
LOL me too! Atho i'll do "ctrl" with my pinkie along with "shift"..
And my thumbs will do "spacebar" and "alt"...
But otherwise all the letter, number, and symbol keys i do with only three fingers - index, middle, ring
RL friends tease me because a lot of the time i type with my pinkies arched, like old fashioned "pinkies up" for having tea
